My friend's pretty girl, Johara, was put to sleep yesterday. She had some intestinal issues that kept getting her blocked up. They had no more money to take her to the vet for this. It sounds (to me, since JoJo has been fighting similar issues, so I've done research) is that her colon was too badly damaged from previous runs of this, and not much could be done... she quite likely had megacolon.
This was the cat who, when I was staying at Sue's house after my own brush with death, Johara was also not well (her first bout with blockage), and she snuggled up with me on the fold out couch each night.
