Water

I am worried about Avalon not drinking enough water. I don't want her to have kidney failure and they may not do blood tests since she is only 14 months old and thin. I don't want to give her too much wet food since the vet told me only give it to her once a week.

Why did the vet tell you to give her wet food only once a week?

She thinks Avalon may get sick if she gets too much moist food.

what do you feed and amounts to Avalon? Do you give her fresh water 2 times a day

I feed Aldis dry food to Avalon twice a day and yes to your second question. She never takes much water.

I would suggest purchasing a water fountain for her to drink out of if you don't have one already. I have had a vet tell me that kitties drink more out of a fountain.

I would increase her canned food intake to at least once daily. Wet food is actually much, much better for kitties since it has liquid in it and several other reasons. If you feel like you need to, you can always add a bit of water to the canned food. I feed one of my girls almost exclusively wet with just 1/8 C of dry food daily.

Another thought - You're not there (sitting next to the water dish) and awake 24/7. I never saw Siri drink water in front of me until 2 weeks ago. She's been inside since August.

There was several times I'd think I heard a cat lapping water and she'd be in the kitchen but not near the water. I can only assume that she doesn't like anyone watching her drink (feels exposed, maybe?). Maybe some other cats are the same.

Why does she think Avalon would get sick if she ate more wet food?

Many vets are "brainwashed" to think kibble is best for cats when that is not true - unless there is some underlying disease -- like urinary crystals.. .and the cat needs a prescription/specialized food. And often there are wet versions of that.

I can't imagine that a grocery store brand dry is very good quality. That is more likely to cause problems than wet food.

ETA: Can you list the ingredients of the Aldi dry that you are feeding?

Wet food is a great thing you can do to prevent kidney failure ... That and a water fountain... (and probably a new vet too)...
Unless there is a specific reason why he is saying this... And I mean specific - like your cat is allergic to something, or has an underlying disease... Even so, there are different wet foods to deal with different needs.
IMO Feed the dry, but by all means add daily wet food to her diet, and a water fountain really helps too like these:

Sorry guys have not been on here in a long time....my last job kept me busy. Now as far as the Aldi's cat food, the cashier at Petco told me it is mainly corn. So now I buy her dry seafood at Petsmart. My vet is at Banfield from Petsmart. Aren't they supposed to be among the best. LOL!!!

I will give her more moist food. The fountains seem expensive. I think Target sells them too but a different kind.

walmart has the basic fountain for 30$

They are a little pricey at the big box pet stores... but as Sharky noted... walmart, target, etc. carry them... also Amazon.com is a good source for these things, often at no shipping cost.
