Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
We knew about six feral cats. So far we've found a foster home for one of the kitties. Two others from the same litter show up daily. We're not sure whether we'll trap and have them fostered or release them.

Two others from that litter haven't turned up.

...but a cat we didn't know about turned up a month or so ago. We don't see her regularly, but she was out on the deck yesterday!

She looks so much like Spooky it's eerie. Exact same coloring (different lighting) and both tabby markings - down to the tail having no orange or brown in it and being gray with black rings.

Here's a pic of the big feral we need to TNR:

...and here's a pic of our Spooky (rescued from this same spot, 7 years ago):

...and here's the newcomer!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We'd seen him at the garbage before we started putting food out - and he finally turned up.

Poor baby has a rip in his right ear. I guess we'll have the vet ear-tip that one.

That last pic looks like my Squishy!
Obviously it's just a head picture, and I realize most orange & white cats look alike - but hey, let me enjoy this one, will ya?

Maybe a long lost cousin?

...as to the "Spooky" cat... it must be some kind of relation. We do know for sure that Spooky's mom was spayed.

But we trapped cats for two years in this RV park before we moved into a house, and in fact, the colony was at 0 (adopted out or relocated as barn cats) by the time we left. We weren't aware of any other ferals for a while before leaving... and we worked with the farmers around here to get their barn cats spayed/neutered.... but it's entirely possible there's someone's house pet that isn't spayed/neutered that we just never saw, or a feral(s) in the area we never saw. There are certainly lots of places for food and shelter around here with all the farms.

We joke with Spooky about her "twin" cousin outside.

Spooky and her twin are both beautiful patched tabbies!

And the new boy is handsome too.

Bless you and Gary for all that you do.

Oh, they are all so beautiful

The resemblance is amazing, I love the deep amber color in the big feral and your Spooky.

And the big orangie, his poor little ear. I wonder if it's from fighting or from frostbite.

How close were you when you took the pics?

I believe that tortoiseshell is black/red blend or the dilute versions of it w/o all the tabby markings .

There's no place like home
She has very similar markings to my Indie, who I've always called a tortie. But I have heard people on this site call them tortie's, torbies, spotted tabbies, and probably other names. A lot of tri-color cats are spotted like a tabby.

My vet called them torties so that's the name that I've always used.

Patched tabby = torbie. Basically it's a tabby with orange "patches" or markings.

My foster, Lola, is a tortie.

Well, it's been a tough couple of weeks weather-wise. The little gray kitty and the little b&w kitty are here every day at some point between 11:30am and 3:30pm, so that'll make trapping a lot easier when we're ready (and the trap is back at the vet!)

We got over a foot of snow on Tues night/Wed, and THANK GOODNESS the two of them were here ALL day Tuesday - because they got trapped by the snow UNDER THE DECK!
I mean - not woohoo they got trapped by the snow, but it couldn't have happened in a better place.

The orange & white boy is here every day now. We can talk to him out the window and he doesn't run anymore.

Little gray kitty still growls if he's under the deck and I reach my hand under there to deal with the food dish.

B&W kitty is just TOO CUTE. He runs around and plays with everything.

The "Spooky" kitty comes by frequently, but not every day. She's obviously been through at least one Winter here, so she's got her haunts, and we don't know where they are. We did see her leap out of the garbage bin the other day.
Gary reminded her there's always food up here and she knows where it is. We saw her the next day.

But they're getting big!

The trap still isn't back to the vet, so we may just buy our own. We need the weather and Gary's health to match up, because we need to get these kitties fostered, and the woman who took Talker is willing to do it. She knows these are going to be much longer, tougher cases.

...and little Talker is doing GREAT. She says he's VERY playful and likes other kitties. He goes full tilt running around playing and then plops down on the first soft thing he runs onto.
He did have an issue biting (not people, but stuff in the house) the first two weeks or so, but he seems to have learned better behavior. She thinks they'll probably put him up on Petfinder soon.

Oh Laurie, what a wonderful update!

I am glad to hear the two little kitties show up at a specific time everyday and that you have somebody who can foster them. This winter has been very cold but I am happy in a way that we got so much snow since snow keeps everything warmer (plants and animals) as opposed to a bitter cold without snow.

The orangie looks and sounds like he is a real teddyybear

Love Talker's name and I can just picture him from your description as a hilarious little boy.

Wishing you and Gary good health and healing!

Marina
