the cat who lives in the nursing home who seems to know when a patient is about to die and stays with them until the end? IMO it's creepy but yet sort of comforting that Oscar does this.

Well I know that if I were a patient and this life were about to end, that there is nothing I would want more than a beautiful kitty by my side.

Um, I think he was killed sometime in '08 or '09? Apparently a resident at the home did it because they thought he was actually killing people?
I can't remember all the details.

I think it's just creepy, I'd be scared if I knew he only sleeps next to people who are going to die, I'd think I'm dying and I'd probably try to get away from Oscar lol..

there is some kind of superstition in my family, something about how if you see a certain bird land on your roof and stay around the roof for a while- it means someone in the house will die. I always thought it was the creepiest superstition ever, but my dad claims to have seen that bird when two of our neighbors died- one was a lady in her 70s who lived across from us and another was a guy in his 50s who lived 3 doors down...I think it has to do with how certain animals have an instinct for this type of thing.

did he possibly tell you that just to see your reaction? my mom would tell us ghosty stories that were supposedly true. sometimes i think she just wanted to see how we reacted or possibly it was an anti-boredom tactic

but we sured enjoyed listening

as for oscar, many of the scientists think it's related to kitties' sense of smell (14X stronger than ours)

No lol, my family is crazy, they believe in all sorts of superstitions, curses, spitting on you so that the evil jealous people won't curse you if you're too cute as a kid, carrying cloves of garlic in your purse, charm bracelets to ward off curses, etc ...

Nope... looks like he's still alive. I just googled him and he's still going... I think I remember some families were a little spooked over his behavior, and I think some have made the request that he not be allowed in the room, but hasn't been killed.

I read about him and have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, if I were dying, what a beautiful way to pass, with a beautiful kitty angel keeping watch over me. OTOH, it might freak me out, too.

ut0pia, in our family, if a bird hits a window in the house and dies, it means there will be a death in our family. That's always been true. My mom believes that to dream of death means we will hear from the living. From time to time, she will dream of my Aunt Kathryn....Mom will "see" her standing by the bed. Not long after Aunt Kathryn appears to my mother, we will hear of a family member expecting a baby. That's always been true, too.

Creepy.

I'm glad Oscar is still alive and able to bring comfort to people. As I recall, he's really not much of a "people" kitty, doesn't like to be held that often. But he will lie with the dying person until the very end.

The story just reinforces my belief that cats are spiritual creatures. I think they are wonderful stories. I can't think of a better way to go. A woman was in the hospital when she died of cancer. Her healthy cat, 56 miles away dropped dead as her family was receiving the news from the hospital. A cat doesn't leave his owner's deathbed. When the man takes his last breath the cats hisses and claws at the air. There are many things I don't understand and more things I can't see, but I still believe.
