I tried searching the forum and didn't really find anything about this. My 19 year old cat is very stiff from arthritis and has a hard time getting around. Since there aren't really any long term pain meds to help with this, the vet is recommending something called Companion Laser Therapy. It targets the areas giving trouble and can provide both immediate and long term relief with maintenance sessions. Has anyone else used this? Thoughts?

Thanks!

My holistic vet has me using a "cold" laser on Whimsey's acupuncture points. It has been very effective.

Also, my chiropractor uses a cold laser on my back with excellent results.

No quite sure what your vet is recommending, but it sounds similar.

We have a Companion Therapy Laser at the clinic where I work and we use it for a variety of things, including arthritis. It usually does make a difference in the cat's comfort level. It's very safe and completely pain free. We use it on two of our clinic cats for arthritis. RaRa, a 14YO siamese who has terrible arthritis in his spine, and Bandit, a 1 year male who was abused as a kitten and has old breaks in two of his legs. We could really tell in difference in their activity level and ease of mobility after a few therapy sessions. I say it's definitely worth a shot!

Here's the manufacturer's website: http://www.companiontherapylaser.com/indexa.html

I don't have him on any supplements so I think I'll try some of those first. The vet charges $60/session and the initial treatment is about 6 sessions, depending on how they respond. After that, ongoing sessions are as-needed. They do have a special right now where if you buy 6, you get the 7th free.

I've used it for my senior cat Sneakers who seems to have arthritis. It may have helped a little bit but was not a huge difference. I think you have to keep it up very regularly to get much of a benefit.

Well, I'm not going to try it. Ends up that he has a tumor on his liver. We don't know exactly what type but the vet doesn't think it's worth it to do a biopsy. At 19, there's nothing we can really do other than keep him comfortable.

I'm sorry to hear that
Give him lots of love, spoil him rotten and enjoy what time you have left with him. He's had 19 good years, and it sounds like he's had a devoted owners for that time.
