It seems I forgot how..lol... My semi feral s do not attempt to kill me when I pill them , if they are sick.

Well Sylvie my little doll baby had his second exploratory surgery in in 2 years of life. I have two meds twice a day ... One quarter pill and one liquid ... In my mind not to difficult...
So far meds have gotten in and he is still talking to me ... but this is my list of what to have on hand to pill a cat...

1. at least 3 ft of gauze
2. three boxes of band aids
3. a chain metal suit( need one
)
4. do not eat within 30 minutes of piling as your stomach is used as a punching bag
5. Iodine, calendula ointment, lots of hand sanitizer

AHHH I so remember why I wanted more semi feral s ... LESS of my Blood shed

That post makes me glad that I have never had to give Max anything that can't go in food.

Ah, sharky!!

I have one that I have to sneak up on when she's asleep to put drops in her ears, and sit on her to put drops in her eyes but she'd probably eat a rock if I put it in a pill pocket!!

Hope Sylvie is fast on the road to recovery!

Well, with Whimsey, I give him 5 pills in a.m., 2 pills at noon, and another 5 or 6 at night. I also give him subq fluids every other day and subq vitamin B12 every Friday.

What is my trick? HE HAS NO TEETH!!!!!!!

Kasey (my fierce resue tortie) gets 1/4 on a glucosamine pill in the morning and 1/4 in the evening;

It gets wrapped in a very small bit of cheese, the only "people food" she ever gets, it is a big part of the day for her.

There is not trouble with this process, she usually reminds me, when I get up and when I come home from work, that is is pill time

I find I lose a lot less blood when the vet is able to put the meds in liquid form. I'm just not fast enough to push a pill down a cats throat and get my finger out of harms way in time to avoid the teeth.

Spitfire required minor surgery with 10 days of meds and wound cleaning when I trapped her, amazing how much damage a three pound feral kitten can do to a hand! When the vet changed her pain meds to a liquid the procedure was much less stressful for both of us.

this made me laugh since Tilly my little feral also has to be pilled twice a day. She has an overactive thyroid and the vet gave me a choice pills or drops to put in the ears. I told him he was nuts of he thought I was going to be able to catch her to put drops in her ears (as it is I was 1/2 an hour late to our appointment and bleeding because it took me an hour to get her into the crate) so we chose the pills and I gave up trying to pill her when SillyItaliangirl told me about pill pockets!

Nuts doesn't do liquids, giving him a pill in a pill pocket works better. He will rip me apart if I try to give him liquid(yes I have personal experience with this, I didn't realize how sharp his little claws were and since he was still living outside at the time I couldn't just clip them.)

At one of his and Attitude's normal kitten appointments they needed wormed. Attitude who had had so many liquid meds(a tongue ulcer found at her first vet appointment and then eye infections and the corneal ulcer) given to her took it. Well Nuts didn't want to and lets just say I think poor Dr. Jessen got wormed, not Nuts. I think Dr. Jessen got more of it in him than Nuts. Nuts was having a cow and spitting it out. He was foaming at the mouth from trying to spit it out. Attitude just looked at Nuts like he was crazy.

Needless to say Attitude gets liquid meds and if Nuts does I'll want it in pill form if at all possible. Him and Attitude each get a brewer's yeast tablet daily so they know what pill pockets are and eagerly scarf them down.

The outside ones will take anything if you put it in canned food.

Have you guys ever seen this product?

Klaw Kontrol? I Bought it to medicate Bugsy, and I got to say, it made my job MUCH easier!!!
The bag has zippers in different locations, so you can use it to cut nails, or even to clean a poopie butt! - you can pull only the butt and tail out
, and one paw at a time

The only thing is that Bugsy is GIGANTIC, and the X-Large bag, even though it says 15-25lbs, Bugsy is 18, and the bag is tight, super tight... Tomorrow I think I will leave part of the zipper open...
Not sure how long it is going to last, but I do appreciate it already!

I just used it today again... AWESOME!

Bugsy's med is liquid, and having him completely immobilized, giving me a free hand to open his mouth, and the other to put the meds in it is simply priceless - and because it takes so much less time, and trying, I thing it got to be much less traumatic for him too...
I love it!
BTW, I bought it from here - the page said $12 something shipping, but they ended up sending USPS, and charging me like $5.00 Even if it was $12 would be the cheapest place... But with $5 shipping I ended up paying like $24 for the bag, instead of $37!!!
