In the past 6 months I've taken two pay cuts at work, so money is really tight. Last night I did my federal taxes and was so happy I was getting a $1,100 refund! I was thrilled to have some extra money for a change.

This morning, I get in my car and the front end is shimmying and shaking all over the place. I don't know what the problem is but it probably won't be cheap.

It's always something!

Has it been cold and icy, and has your car been outdoors? If so, you may have some ice built up on the rims, putting it out of balance.

Nothing a move to Texas wouldn't fix!

It has been very cold here, but I think it's a problem with a tire(s) being "out of round" (whatever that means), at least that's what a guy at work told me after test driving it. Whatever it is, I hope it's not too expensive.

Sounds like you might have a bulge in a tire? Are they pretty worn? I've had this happen long ago, you may need a new tire or a good used one. Of course, if you buy used ones, you may come upon this problem again over time. Different cars wear tires differently and eventually the wear becomes uneven. But a good used tire may hold you over until you get your tax refund.

I'm going to have it looked at today and see if it's urgent or can wait a few weeks until I get my refund. It's a good thing I'm basically an optimist, because I would be banging my head against the wall by now!

I was going to say the same thing. I get that a lot here where I live. Drive home in the snow, then park the car for the night. When I leave for work the next morning, I have a horrible vibration, because snow had melted and then will refreeze on the inside of the rim. Check in the inside of your rims, both front and back, there may be some ice.

The way I see it, it works out perfectly because now you have money for your car repair
Yes, it would be nice to have extra money but at least you will be able to afford the repairs!

(This kind of thing always happens to us too and I have to look at the bright side or else I will scream
)

Like Gary and I always say, if it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all.

It IS always something, isn't it? it's just the tires being out of balance! That's not expensive to fix.

I had a mechanic friend of a friend drive it today and he doesn't think it's a tie rod (so my tires may not fall off) and I should be able to wait the 2 weeks till I get my cash from Uncle Sam. He didn't check the rims for ice, though. I would do that myself, but I don't know where to look!
