Some sphynx news

I am trying to decide what to do about getting a sphynx.
My husband did call Cleos breeder and left messages but we have not heard from him.
I know he is busy right now.
He still is my first choice.

I trust him and he has nice cats.
Another breeder wrote me today and has kittens that will be ready in feb.
They said they go fast but I do not wnat to rush into anything.
I alo wrote another breeder but she has not replied yet and has kittens.
They will be ready around may but we have no shows after may until August.
I am not going by sex or color.
I am going by type and standards.

I was hoping for a kitten that I could start showing in March.
I prefer to show kittens as soon as they are 4 months old.
These kittens would be 7 months by August so I am not sure if they would be nice in the ring.
Decisions Decisions.

IMO any time a breeder says "they are going fast" - tells me its a yellow or red flag to hurry up and make a decision. I think you should sit down and decide at least the sex and think about what you really want.

I know our next Ocicat will be a chocolate-silver boy from our Oci breeder friend (not Jack's breeder, but another one that helped pick Jack out). She specializes in chocolates and choco-silvers. She knows we will want a boy and I'm willing to wait - we won't get him till next year - see what she has in the spring of 2011 as far as litters. Then I can get him by end of summer in good weather and show as a kitten in the fall shows.

I agree with GK. Think about what you want.

If you know and trust Cleo's breeder, I would be inclined to get on his waiting list and just wait for the right kitten.

There is nothing wrong with being interested in other breedings and blood lines, I have that tendency as well with my favorite breed of dog.
However, I do want to encourage you to stay on top of contacting that busy breeder if you found one you trust and you got in your opinion a great cat from them, stick with them. You know you by going with them you chances of a healthy gorgeous sweet kitty that you can show from a honest breeder is really good kwim?

I would pass on the breeder that says their kittens are selling fast, just my two cents A good kitten isn't an impulse and hurry high pressure to buy, it is a VERY big decision and this kitten will be around for hopefully twenty years, so it isn't a big deal to wait months or even a year if you need for the right kitten/breeder.
Good luck!

Jacky,

Cleo's breeder is now the TICA southeast regional director, so he is busier than ever with that added responsibility in addition to his judging schedule.

If you want a show quality kitten from him, tell him that yourself, sign a contract and put a deposit down. Then he knows you're serious and he will make sure you get that special cat.
If you feel it's important to show the kitten at a young age, there are 3 TICA shows in California for May/June.
Many of us travel out of state if we need to show our cats. There's always a way to get your kitten/cat into a show.

Nial,
I know he is the new Regional Director and was in Japan.
I also heard he has been promoted to a Allbreed judge and he is coming to Arcadia in feb.
I do not want to harrass him.
He knows what kitten I wanted.
We had talked about the price last Dec and he was going to send pictures but I think he got busy.
I will not be showing in my area next month and we be going to Reno in May.
Of course I like his cats and he is my first choice and if we ever get ahold of him I would give a deposit and sign a contract.
People in CFA already have accused Wrinkles of being outcrossed to a siamese.
She is not a outcross at all.
I paln on showing her in CFA until she fgets her Winners Ribbons then she will only be shown in TICA.
I am bringing her pedigree tomorrow and DNA test.
I did not write that breeder that emailed me back so do not worry about it.
I can do the Arcadia TICA shows as long as my sister can take care of my other cats.
