We feed Albus and Luna Nutro Max Cat wet and dry food and I usually buy a couple months worth of wet food at a time. The last time I went into Pet Supplies Plus to stock up, they had almost none left- maybe a case of 2-3 flavors. I figured they were just in between shipments and didn't think much of it.

When I went to re-stock the other day, I went to Pet Supplies Plus first and all they had were 3 oz cans. Then I went to PetSmart and all they had were a couple cases of the 5 oz cans in one of the fish flavors (which we never do) and about half a case of one of the 5 oz meat-based flavors and a few 5 oz cans of a couple other meat-based flavors.

I bought all of what they had, which was about 20 cans total, but it seemed like this wasn't just in between shipments, like there's something more going on. The other weird thing is that what they did have had two different labels, but it all had a 2012 expiration date. Some were like this and some were like this (but an adult formula).

Anyone know anything?

I noticed the new labels last time I picked up cat food at Petco, but they had plenty of it on the shelves. Did you talk to the manger about shipments?

I am pretty sure they are phasing out some stuff. The pouches were deeply discounted and I grabbed as many as I could along with some 3 oz canned flavors I know the boys will eat. I think they are tinkering with the line up, but I would ask a store manager.

I wonder if they are repackaging ... I noticed the dog pouches are now trays like little ceaser or sheba

No, I was sort of in a hurry, so I didn't ask about it. My only concern is that the first time I noticed the shortage, at Pet Supplies Plus, was back in November or so, and now there's still a shortage in late January?

And I should mention that the day before I went into PetSmart, I was at that same Pet Supplies Plus for something else and noticed they didn't have much of a selection, so I don't think it's just a coincidence. How long does it take to switch over to the new packages?

depends on the company ... some seem to do it overnight others take 6-9 months

I went to Petsmart today and got several of the 3 oz cans for 25 cents a piece. Normally I wouldn't buy Nutro but Nightmare loves it and I'll do anything to keep that boy on wet food

Also, anyone know why stores are trying to clear out all the Friskies pouches? Got a bunch of those from petsmart today as well (again for Nightmare) for 22 cents a pouch.

I was very glad to see though that Petsmart/Petco are advertising that wet food is better than dry

One both stores have had a very pro wet view for a number of years at least 5

Two was it just a few flavors? date codes? I ask as they are in other towns
but 50 cent s for 6 oz would stretch the budget

Friskies pouches are clearance here for 32 cents/pouch. I'm not sure why they are clearance.
I bought a 12 pack from Wal-Mart and the packaging was the same (the pouch design). Petsmart did have some of the older design pouches on clearance too, but the expiration dates were still good. Normally 64 cents for 6 oz is too much for me too, but Nabu needed a switch up of his usual. He was getting a little bored with the same old same old for breakfast.

The recall list does say since Jan 1, 2006 but if and when new info is received, this list will be updated. If there are updates... better safe than sorry
