Technically, it is Tues in my part of the world, so you're getting the QOTD early.

This one is a personal one: What would you say is your greatest accomplishment thus far in your life?

So far completing my first two years of my degree which has been 12 papers so far - I've had 10 A passes and 2 B+ passes for those 12 papers. My first year (2008) I got Top Student in my Programme and I'm attending the award ceremony for 2009 in 2 weeks time so I will wait and see what that award is. Definitely my greatest achievement so far.

I'm happily married (most of the time!) and will celebrate 39 years in a few months, so I would say that staying married is probably our greatest achievement. Sometimes it's difficult.

That being said, though....I started college when I was 40 years old and it was hard. I worked a full time job, a seven-day swing shift schedule, and went to classes at the same time. Many semesters I could only do part time classes because I was also a wife, mom, and full time worker. So it took me ten years to finish and to graduate. But I did...and with honors. I was a Geography Student of the Year and I was lucky enough to be able to participate in a special internship that was only offered to one student from the university. I was 48 years old at the time and the first student from the Geography Department ever to be offered that internship. (And I will be the first to tell you that I couldn't have done any of it without my husband's and my son's love and support.)

That would be my greatest personal achievement.

OK. I'm going to get personal for this personal question. My biggest accomplishment in my life was changing my life 14 years ago. I made the decision that I wanted to live. I had been a terrible alcoholic since I was 15 years old. I was in an abusive relationship, but couldn't stay sober long enough to get out of it. I was ready to die. Knew it was going to take a miracle for me and knew that miracle wasn't going to happen. Doctors, family, friends had written me off as hopeless. I had too..until one day. While sitting in the front yard of a neighbors' house I saw some kids across the street trying to drown a kitten in a bucket of water! In a rare moment of lucidness I walked over and snatched the kitten from these brutes. Now I have always been a cat lover, but when you're an alcoholic the only thing that matters is the next drink. Well, something happened to me that day. I looked at that helpless, wet and shaking kitten and felt hopeful. I took that baby home with me and we loved each other back to health and back to life! I stopped drinking, put that man out and got a job! That angel lived with me for 12 years. She was my miracle. Ok, I know this has been a very heavy reply, but the outcome has been so amazing! I just took a hell of a trip to get here!!!!

Mine was losing a total of 165 pounds with nothing more than proper eating and exercise and maintaining it for the past 2 and a half years.

Beating the beast, surviving cancer. Being able to take care of myself after my divorce many years ago. I am an independent woman and am proud that I could survive on my own. Just want you ladies out there to know...there is a life after divorce. We can take care of ourselves, yes we can.

Since I used to be afraid to speak in public, joining Toastmasters and eventually winning the state speaking championship.

I feel my greatest accomplishment has been , adopting and raising 3 children. Two of which had been labeled unadoptable, because of special needs. Both of these children through a lot of work, are now happy, healthy, get good grades, and no longer have the label of special needs.

I have a few that I am proud of, I don't know which would be my greatest though.

Personal accomplishments:

- Changing my life from an angry, suicidal, stone walled, mess of a teen to a mature and responsible young single mom. I had help, lots of help along the road.

- Raising 2 beautiful, kind, loving and smart daughters on my own (up untill 6yr ago)..... watching Kendra mature into a wonderful young woman and knowing I had something to do with that... watching Kayleigh use her highly intelligent smarts and knowing I had something to do with that.

- Conquering too many personal demons to list LOL.

Accomplishments:

- Getting my highschool diploma after being out of school for 11yrs

- Maintaining a 93% average in my college courses, till of course my health got in the way and I was pulled out

- Learning to live, with what I've been dealt.... That is an ongoing one that I think I will be accomplishing for the rest of my life.

To everyone who posted.... Great accomplishments all of you. You should be quite proud of yourselves

This one was hard cuz I haven't accomplished much on an outward basis...

Retraining my mind to focus on everything positive rather then negative. Being the good friend with (i hope) Good advice and an ear when people need it.

Most of all... A loving daughter to my mom... and a BIG sister to my little brother (8 yrs younger). Being an older sister with a toddler brother was by far the best. Knowing my bro and I are close and share a lot of good conversations means more to me then any other thing in my life I have accomplished.

Oh... and 10 years of marraige to my wonderful hubby. 10 yrs isn't long, but it's a start, we are working towards our 42nd wedding anniversary. We will throw a HHGTTG themed party for that one!!

Be safe.

You are the one to be commended. You came a long way and should be very proud of yourself. This was a very interesting question by the way.

Wow, everyone should be really proud! These are some pretty big accomplishments.

I have to think on this one.... but I think most of the things I consider to be accomplishments involve doing things for others. Like Chris, I don't know which one would be the "greatest."

I started and organized a special olympics program participation in my high school - it involved co-ordinating with the Special Ed teachers, organizing volunteers to work with the children, scheduling, training, logistics of traveling with a fairly large group... something I'm very proud of, actually, especially given the accomplishment for the age I was.

Gary and I probably saved the life of our daughter, Naomi, and we definitely totally changed the course of the life of several of her friends - who knows, maybe we saved their lives too.

...and then all the kitties' lives we've saved, and all the kitties we've prevented from being born homeless...

...having supported myself since high school and having put myself through college...

...and this one the credit really goes to my parents, but I've always followed my own path in life, never been afraid to take risks nor to speak my mind, and follow my heart. I never followed a traditional path, and I always trusted that things would work out... and they always have.

I guess being only the second person in my family - both sides (the other is my brother) to graduate from a 4-year college and the only one to get a masters, both from top schools.
