FIV Transmission Q's..

.. I don't have the best net access, so I cannot say when I'll be able to post back.. but another member on these boards suggested the library for free net access which I'll try my best to get to for an update on my kits soon.

Punky hasn't been diagnosed with FIV yet.. he tested negative before I adopted him, but is having another FIV/FeLV test tomorrow.. I'm still looking for knowledge before hand. carolinalima made the point that FIV isn't contagious unless there's a bite or other body fluids.. Punky isn't aggressive, so biting hasn't happened. But he and Billy clean each other, as does another foster cat, and everyone shares a bunch of litter boxes and used to share food bowls (until now since Punky is now on wet food only). Is that something to be concerned about? Do I need to separate completely, partially, not at all?? I'm beyond worried.

You can go here to read what I wrote about his health, the situation, et cetera.. http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=211292

Don't worry FIV isn't spread by sharing food dishes or litter boxes. It's primarily spread through deep bite wounds or it can be passed from a mom to her babies. I just discussed this with my vet a couple days ago because one of my cats was just diagnosed. I was concerned about my other cats getting FIV but the vet said I should be OK. My cats usually avoid each other or in rare case they may smack each other. Mikey the FIV positive kitty was a stray/semi feral that shouwed up here all torn up and severly under weight so he most likely got it from fights before he adopted me.

Be careful, I *think* this is the one that can have a false positive IF they have had the shots for it.

Someone correct me if I am wrong!

Good luck though, vet visits are never fun!

Speedboat was tested for that this morning. My vet said the reason he never gave shots for FIV is because it made them test positive for the disease.
