The vet had me come get Sasha at 1 pm today. When we got home he went straight to his litterbox. He was in and out 8 times in 35 minutes leaving nothing behind.
I had already called the vet back after his third trip in. He said give him time as he had palpated him at noon and he was not blocked then. he said if it doesn't get better he'd readmit him tonight and we'd be looking at pernial urethrostomy surgery.
Over the next four hours things got no better. At least twenty trips in all into the box. Some short, some long, all unproductive. I checked him back in at the vet's office at 8PM.
It does not make sense. IMO he did not form a new crystal in one day. If he is blocked by a crystal it was already there. Possibly the very same crystal that blocked him on Friday.
I just had a discussion with Becky. We are going to seek another opinion about the PU surgery tomorrow. The vet who has him now and treated him these past two days said he "unplugged him and flushed his bladder real good". Today, when questioned about the possibility that the blockage today was missed by the flush, he said "Yes, it's possible. I'm flushing his bladder 'blind'. I rinsed him for a half hour, thats all I can do".
I believe if I can find a vet who can with certainty clean his bladder and urethra, then we'll have more time for the diet to kick in. This was the plan on Friday and I think it is still a viable plan.
I hope you can get him 're-flushed' too. My Bear went throught this, and ended up with P/U surgery. They flushed him, but when they took the cath out he blocked again in less than an hour. I am not sure how it happens so fast either. Let me know what you find out. It took Bear about a month to recover from the surgery and be 100% again.
I have dealt with this with 3 of my male cats....its never easy...I do know that all the "messing " with things can make them feel very sore and irritated ..my one cats bladder was messed up for months after he was "flushed" out ...Even after he had the surgery he was still on meds to help his bladder....
Its got to be very frustrating because you think he is at the vets being treated all should be good when they finally say he can come home....And he ends up being worse...
Sounds like he is in alot of pain...I sure hope this get resolved soon...
The constant squatting may have been because he is so irritated now he feels like he has to go all the time, even when his bladder is empty.
Getting a second opinion is a good idea, see if you can find a vet who is experienced in this surgery and these issues. A specialist, if you can find one. Do you have a vet school available to you?
