A rather embarassing question/behavior

Spike masturbates a lot, by walking and kneeding and kinda humping on top of me whenever I am in a reclining position. He will go on forever, and the reason I think it is masturbation is that sometimes he slips, straddles my leg, and I can feel his erection. I have many questions about this.
1) did something get missed when he was neutered? the other two males do not do this.
2) Is this why he is the alfa, not as friendly, and sometimes very agressive towards the other 2?
3) Is there anything I can do that is not punitive, nor drugs that can alter this behavior?
thanks.

I cant believe not one person has replied to this yet. surely I don't have the only cat that does this?

Seti did that when he was younger, especially when I was trying to go to sleep. After getting dropped on the floor a million times he finally cut it out. Though most recently he mated with an empty cardboard wrapping paper tube. There was even a erhm... spot. I'll leave the details to your imagination. I don't know that I can answer the questions you asked though. Seti certainly isn't my alpha though he sometimes tries to be but all 3 other cats are larger than he is. I don't ever have a problem with him trying to mate with me anymore since I would just drop him off the side of the bed when he did it. The cardboard wrapping paper tube was something of a shock (and I died laughing) and isn't normal for him so I'm not really sure what precipitated it.

Mounting behavior is associated with dominance in dogs (higher-ranking female dogs will even mount males), not sure if it's the same with cats.

As far as stopping the behavior, what would happen if you stood up, or picked him up and plopped him on the floor when he started?

I think Monster humps blankets or clothes when he is kneading them. When my BF would tell me he was humping things, I didn't believe he would because he was neutered. After watching him carefully while he was doing it, I do believe he is humping. Also, after he is finished kneading/humping, he will roll over and lick his wee-wee. Not only that, but his wee-wee will also be sticking out as well. Idk why he does it, I didn't think animals had the drive to do that sort of thing after being altered.

When Tolly kneads, and he kneads only on me, he gets so excited he gets an erection, and I know he also will ejaculate a little sometimes. He is 11 years old, neutered when he was six months old, and started doing this when he was about 2.

At first I was very grossed out about it, but I've kind of gotten used to it. He'll get on me and start kneading and I won't pay attention, then his purr goes up a notch and I realize when he's doing and I push him off me.

he jumps to the floor, or to the back of the couch, and washes (I can tell it is sensitive, too, at first), then gets back on me, curls up and goes to sleep.

Fatman used to hump mine or BFs legs in bed but after getting booted onto the floor a few nights in a row he stopped. I think its atleast been since the summer time that he humped one of us. Hercules however doesnt hump but when he licks himself down there his dippy doo will pop out and I almost have to wonder if he..ahem...takes care of it himself...**ewww**

Don't know if it's dominance or not in your case... but one of my foster boys WILL mount and hump ONE of the lesser cats.. just one.... Don't know if he is having an erection when he does it. That is definitely a dominance thing on Cas' part.

I do know that when he is enjoying attention from me, his wee-wee does pop out... usu. when he is rolling around on the floor and being petted.

Males are males are males, I guess. Even after they have been nipped.

As others have said, express your displeasure with it and transfer his attentions to something else, I guess.

ETA - I did ask my vet about the mounting and humping. She also said that it can happen seasonally... as females in the area come into heat and the males sense it. While they may not have a full "arsenal" anymore .... they still have some drive left.

marvin does this as well. he is the only male, and was neutered at about 5 months of age (he's now 2).

he doesn't try it with the other cats (haha... i can't imagine the beatdown that would occur if he tried), nor does he do it with pillows, blankets or cardboard tubes (love that!). only when he's on mine or bf's lap...usually mine. the kneading comes first, then the sleepy closed little eyes, and then... the almost inperceptible (at first) humping. i like to think he doesn't even know he's doing it, but bf says "he knows". guess as a man he relates

i just push him off, and he goes and lays down somewhere. weird. my last male cat, also neutered, never did this in his 7 years.

I think it's a dominant gesture. Or he's just happy to see you...
My alfa male (neutered) does that to other cats (unneutered) to show who is the king in the house.
My unneutered stud who lives with my friend is doing 'stuff' with blankets, pillows, clothes and things like that.. But has left the humans alone, for now. That is clearly a masturbating thing, he used to do it when he lived with me so I've seen the difference, he also usually purred a lot and 'baked biscuits' while doing it.

ok, then I won't worry about it. It is annoying when he stands between me and the tv, and I can't see the screen. It is just strange that only some of them do it. I thought something went wrong surgically that allowed too many hormones behind.

I'm actually glad I came across this thread. Isaac does this sometimes. It always starts out innocently enough. He starts his kneading & drooling behavior, then the humping starts. It's not all the time, but I don't like it. I generally will take him off me & put him on the floor. He too is neutered & was at about 5 months old. I don't think it's a dominance behavior, but I have heard it described as a comforting behavior. I'm not sure what the deal is, but I am glad it's not just my cat.

gailuvscats, i too thought maybe something was 'left behind'. marvin was cryptorchid, and when i first witnessed the humping, i thought maybe the vet left his one undescended testicle in there when she neutered him! she assured me that she did not

Yeeeahhhh...... I caught Jakie humping his brother this evening. First time that's happened in the 6 and a half months I have had them. What gives? I guess there is something in the air.....

Albus does it too; usually to blankets, but sometimes while my leg is under them. Someone in another post about this was saying they talked to an animal behaviorist who said it usually meant the cat was looking for attention....dear god, I don't know how much more attention we could give to Albus, so I think it is just a comforting/pseudo-sexual thing with him.

As long as we're talking about weird, kinky stuff cats do, we had some friends whose cat seemed to be into auto-erotic asphyxiation (y'know, what they think David Carradine died from.) They said he would find boxes or containers, any sort of edge that was at about neck-level with him, lean his head over it and sort of drop his weight and just stay like that for 15 or 20 seconds with sort of a blissed-out look on his face, then stagger away and go lick himself....um, ew.

Charlie used to get "excited" like that and he was neutered at 3 or 3 1/2 months old. Jack doesn't do it and he was neutered at 4 1/2 months old. But then again Charlie was a lot bigger "kneader" then Jack is.

Just cause they are neutered, doesn't mean they don't know they are a boy and can still be stimulated to some degree. It really doesn't bother me. The only thing you can do in put them on the side of your lap and pet them so you don't make them think they are doing wrong.
