Gypsy is on a hypoallergenic diet (science diet d/d) and she also has feline herpes. The doctor put her on a Lysine (I think that's the correct spelling) gel but Gypsy won't eat it of her own free will. Short of shoving it down her throat....

The vet told me there is a powder form that I can get at the health food store, but she didn't mention the amount to sprinkle on her wet food in the morning (tried to mix the gel but Gypsy wouldn't touch the wet food at all or she'd eat around the gel). Anyone know the amount to sprinkle? The vet is closed tomorrow and I'd like to get her started asap on the 'medication' to help keep things in check. The antibiotic got her into a remission and is helping heal her nose so I'd like to keep things that way.

(Nose isn't herpes related... that's from her food allergy)

I use the NOW Brand of powdered lysine and do 1/4 t twice a day. I mix it in Hannah's wet food with a couple of teaspoons of water added. It dissolves easily and she never knows it's in there.

1/4 t=552 mg according to the nutrition info on the jar. No normal "500mg" or "1000 mg" thing on the front label.

I also use the L-Lysine from Now foods, but I mix it to their water - when Bugsy has a flare up, I give him an extra 500mg/day on his food. The powder is absolutely tasteless, they don't notice that is in their water, or in the food... I tried crushing pills, but they refused to eat or drink the water. This has over 800 servings per jar.

I'll get the powder. My cat won't touch her wet food if I mix the lysine gel into it.

Picky kitten.

Good call! I also use the Now brand Lysine powder (you can find it at any vitamin store) The bottle lasts forever. I mix it in with my cats' raw food and they have no clue it's in there!
