Tomorrow is my quit day! Smoking that is!

Hubby has been on Chantix for a week and when his cigs run out tomorrow, that's it for him. I can't do Chantix because of my meds and past mental health issues. Don't want to take a chance on losing ground there. A co-worker on the same meds became suicidal when she took it, so no thanks. DH is the most stable, laid-back person I've EVER known so he will be OK that way.

I have patches, will start that when I get up tomorrow. I had success with them 6 years ago. I quit smoking for a year and 1/2 but hubby couldn't and it got to me smelling it on him. I was weak and gave in.

Wish me luck. I sure would like to hear from others that beat smoking and what helped you.

Ohhh I wish you SO much luck!

Dana and I quit cold turkey last August. It wasn't that hard for me because I was a fairly light smoker, but Dana was the biggest jerk for about a month straight.
We got through it though, and I hope that you can as well.

I quit one year ago last Saturday. I quit because I was hospitalized 9 days due to being unable to breathe. I have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), the new name for Emphysema. My husband quit the day I came home from the hospital.

Fear was our motive. My brother was staying with us and on oxygen 24/7 waiting for a lung transplant, the hospital would not release me until oxygen was delivered to the house for me, my husband saw two oxygen outfits in the living room and decided he was nuts to keep on smoking. It scared him into quitting.

We have been lucky in that neither of us have experienced cravings or any desire to smoke and didn't from day 1 and we didn't use anything, just quit cold turkey. I guess the fear of dying replaced the craving.

I wish you both success. Not everyone will develop lung cancer or COPD but I wouldn't wish either on anyone. I am limited in my physical activity because I get out of breath easily and it's very scary not to be able to breathe.

Congratulations on your decision. I quit in 1978 and I have never been sorry.
Prayer helped me.

Good for you!
After several failed attempts, I quit smoking 15 years ago and never looked back.

You can do it!

I wish you the best of luck. I have been a non smoker since 1990 when I quit for good. I had tried twice previously and failed but finally with the help of a non smoker boyfriend, I was able to quit. I went cold turkey, it was difficult but I did it. It's certainly ok if anyone needs help as long as it works with no side effects. Again good luck to you.

My mom was going to use Chantix, but she had a neurologist prescribe it for her so he wasn't really "aware" of her past history (alcoholism, depression, adult ADD, etc). So she never got it filled because of that reason. I've tried quitting smoking so many times it's unreal. I always take advantage of the fact that I'm in the hospital so much for extended periods of time, therefore no smoking that entire time. But as soon as I get out, bam. All those ideas of quitting go down the crapper lol.

Best of luck to you! Sorry I can't give you any advice or anything.

haha it also doesn't help when my friends say "no one likes a quitter" jokingly lol

Hee! That's too funny! You're right...it would take a LOT for me to quit my job! Though there were many times in the early days when I contemplated it.

Thanks for the vibes Laurie! I do feel a bit better now. I've had a few tough times today, mostly from the habit thing. DH noticed that he reached for a cig out of habit also. I went for a walk when I had my hardest craving. Walked for 30 mins up our road and BREATHED and took in the scenery. It was a beautiful day and a lovely cleansing walk.

We did laundry today...clothes, and bedding, cat bedding. Jumping into a fresh bed tonight. Going to babysit my grandson, Brighton tomorrow and Grammy isn't going to smell like smoke. It's hard to smell it when you do it, but you sure notice it when you don't. I think we are going to need to steam clean the HOUSE, I'm serious!

THANK YOU ALL!!!! For the encouragement and good wishes. It feels good to have friends on your side. I may (probably will) come here to vent. DH told me there were chat places for quitters. I think I have a pretty good support system here. I 'know' you guys and I'm comfortable talking to you....not strangers!

I would strongly suggest you weed through this thread and post in it:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...itting+smoking

it is FILLED with advice, from many many different people who have quit smoking....

I quit by using Champix (same thing as ur hubby, different name in Canada) ( I had some horrible side effects, but my will to give it a chance was stronger... there's a thread on it as well.. I didn't use it for the whole 3mos. I had bad side effects for a day or two after increasing the dosages and I ended up missing a dose once, so the next day when I took the regular dose, it put me back to the horrible side effects so I quit taking it as I had already quit smoking on day 10)

I've been quit since June 8th, 7mos now
There's others in that thread that are approaching their year anniversary, etc.

I'll bump it up for you.... seriously, if you can make it through the thread, there are sooooo many suggestions and tools in it, its worth the read.

I wish you the best of luck.
