We just moved two weeks ago and its been nonstop crazy people. Lady next door told my Mom not park in front of her house when she came to visit. "Its her husbands spot" I went over to talk to her and she was very adversarial but I was calm and she actually introduced herself to my sister the other day and was very pleasant. I think we won her over.

We had ANOTHER older guy tell us not to park in a certain spot. Mind you there is PLENTY of parking on this street and for this man we were not even in front of his house so I have no idea why he was telling her this. Joy.

Than the best one of all. Our neighbors are all condo owners. We lease our condo owners place. They do not have a maintanance person to do snow removal, we are supposed to do it. We have had three significant storms since moving in and only the older woman that lives on our floor has been out to shovel and sand (along with us).

The other three condos are a flight attendant who has been home twice since we moved (she is excused
) but the other two condos are kids who are 26-27 ish and boyfriend/girlfriend. Never seen 'em! I put down rock salt on the back stairs and the girl was overheard saying to the BF "Oh! Is that rock salt? "yah" Awesome!
Yah, the rock salt fairy came while you were asleep.

We also had a laundry fiasco but I won't get into that here. It a loooonnnnggg story. But I think either they have a chip on their shoulder or didn't like my landlord or I don't know....but its just a weird unwelcoming vibe.

Just looking to commiserate!
Who has neighbor horror stories? Maybe I won't feel so bad if I hear of worse off folks.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
Aw hun, I'm sorry.

Living in the RV park, our neighbors used to change with the season - this time we got stuck with a bunch of winners that are gonna be here for a while. The park was recently sold, and the old owners were friends - and VERY strict about Park rules. The new owners are nice enough, but have changed the rules and aren't that strict.

A family with one child of 10 years old is two spaces away. I understand that even a large RV is small for a family... so they spend a lot of time outside. But do they HAVE to do it with tunes blasting ALL the time?

Pets are now allowed in the park. The old owners were always OK with our having cats because they're indoor only most were rescued from here to begin with, and we TNR the cats in the park at our expense, so feeding the ferals was also never a problem.

The annoying neighbors have a small dog... which inspired several other people here to get small dogs. There are now three small dogs. For a while they were just let loose, but that we just could not tolerate. They were eating the food we left out for the ferals, scaring them away - and this one we went to the owner of the park and insisted he put a stop to it. Of course they all hate us now. But they tie up these long runs - laundry lines - and hook the dogs on long lines to those. But they do it across the road! We are forever worried about running over a little dog we don't see!

...as to parking. You were never allowed to park on your site before. There is parking across the road for your cars. The neighbors that bother us have two trucks, an enclosed trailer for pulling their dirt bikes and their car. So all their vehicles don't fit in their parking places, and they use ours. Fine. We have one van. But their giant truck makes a huge racket - and he leaves for work at 5:30am. It's diesel, so he starts it up at 5:00am. He can't park the truck he uses in their space? Gary's talked to him about it... and it stops being parked there for like a week, and then it starts again.

The dirt bikes are really loud, and they get out early on the weekends to use them. I wouldn't mind if it were like 9:00am, but they're out around 6:00am. It is SO annoying.

In an RV park, my front yard is your back yard. Of course a small strip along your RV is for you to access that side of it. But don't treat my front yard like the whole thing is your back yard! We were in the city or something this fall, and they decided to wash the truck. They pulled it into our front yard to wash it. Of course the ground got all soaked. So they ripped the yard to shreds when they moved the truck when done. We come home to giant gouged out truck tracks.
They didn't say a thing, didn't apologize, and offered to do nothing about it.

We had to dig up the entire area and plant grass seed. Gary did ask them to please not use our yard again. Of course they started parking the dirt bikes there.
So we bought those cheap outdoor solar garden lamps, and when they were out with the bikes we put up a "perimeter."

I can't wait until his contract job is up! (And they can't wait to get back to Alabama). I think they're here for another year though.

Ugh, I'm so sorry for the BOTH of you!

Currently I LOVE my neighbours, they're my aunt and uncle.
Our PREVIOUS place though, was another story.

We lived in a 2 bedroom in the middle of a 3 unit building. On our very first night there, the man living above us got VERY drunk and started throwing boxes of beer bottles out his 3rd story window at 3:00AM. Then he started yelling and screaming (at no one) out in the hall and started throwing things down the stairs right outside of our door. We were TERRIFIED! Our first night there and we had to call the cops! This man was also the brother of the woman who owned the building (who was also nuts, but that's another story.
) so she wouldn't kick him out. His drunken rampages became a common occurrance.

Aside from him, the family who lived DOWNSTAIRS from us were total, utter and complete trash. Neither one of them worked, and they had 3 young girls, who they would let stand in the window, half naked.
The stench that came from their appartment was enough to make you gag, and almost EVERY night they would fight and scream, which would make the girls scream. I felt SO terrible for those poor little girls.
They have no real "life" to look forward to at this rate.

Anyway, we didn't last there long before moving to this place. We LOVE it here, so peaceful, spacious... We lucked out!

The neighbour that drives us crazy, is a single Mom with 2 teenage boys. The older boy is a nice polite pleasant guy. The younger is a wholy terror. When he was 13. He had a party while his mother was at work. His friends trashed the house, broke out the picture window and lot of her things were stolen. He recently had a car given to him, He has no license neither does the car. Dh informed is Mother yesterday as soon as she goes to work, he goes joyriding. He likes to bouce basketballs off our house at 2 in the morning. Destroy my flower garden. Ring the doorbell. Every halloween he smashs the pumpkins. He has shot children playing in my yard with plastic bb's, and paint ball guns. Mom finally took them away. Anything this little turd can think of to annoy us he does. His mother insists we don't understand him he is a good boy. We also know the boy does drugs drinks, and smokes. Mom is rarely home , she needs her own life you know
. Dad is no where to be seen. I have no doubt this boy now 15 will end up in jail.

Oh my gosh you poor people! (Laurie, it sounds to me like these people need to cut down on the 'toys' and use the money to find somewhere a little more spacious for themselves!)

DH and I moved last summer from a neighborhood I vented about on here several times. But I think all of you have been dealing with worse than us!! We had a few nice neighbors there but even had gripes with them, or more commonly their company. I'm trying to think of the worst of it...I guess I've blocked it from my mind. There was the time my neighbor got her car stuck in my yard...I think it was about a foot from my actual house. Another time my neighbor had a huge BBQ (why wasn't I invited!?! lol) and one of his guests actually blocked our driveway. I think the teens and older kids were the biggest problem. Just unruly and unsupervised. My house and car were hit with rocks before. Light Bulbs were randomly taken from our lights one Christmas. Some just petty, but annoying prank type stuff. Oh now it's coming back...the biggest problem was the people who played loud music at all hours...sometimes loud enough to rattle the window in our bedroom. I love living in the country!!

Neighbors- UGH

We have had the neighbors from heck living next door to us for the last 2.5 YEARS.

It was a mom dad and 2 kids. The kids are around my kids' ages. The kids are TERRORS. When the girl came into the house for the first time, and RAN out of the house with my dtr's iPod to "smash" it- I knew there was trouble. (and she was never allowed inside again)

I had a window blown out by a BB gun. The BB gun was being shot at Thanksgiving when I had my then 3 YEAR OLD NIECE in the backyard. Of course you couldn't yell at the kid- b/c he's got mega issues of his own and yelling just goes in one ear and out the other.........

They used to go to youth group. The boy made my dtr cry EVERY SINGLE WEEK. Ugh. It got to a point where dd refused to go to youth for a while b/c she couldn't stand him- even though church is where he needed to be.

Anyhow- the parents had issues of their own. Mom moved out (and cleaned the whole house out) last year. The kids went with her, so now they're only here every other weekend (THANK HEAVENS!)

The one thing that kind of ticked me off happened last week. The kids showed up at our house. Wanted to talk to dd (talked to dh instead) The boy said "I was in the woods and found a cat skeleton with black fur on it". Well, we did lose a cat in August to kidney failure- he was 17 and black. However, I don't believe him at all. First of all- there's not going to be anything left of the animal- we've got "critters" (like foxes, eagles, hawks etc) that eat dead things (I think he went out in the woods and died). Most of the words out of his mouth- you can't believe anyhow. And it was in August. It's the end of January. That's 4 months! There is NO WAY that kid found anything.

I think he just came over here to make dd cry. And that makes me ANGRY. Dh said "do you think we go in the woods, look for him and tell the kids"? Um NO! (and that's what I told him) Wy? 2 weeks ago I brought home this new kitty- she's all black and named HollyHeart- the kids are past Mistoflees death. Why bring it up now?

We have tried being nice. We have tried being good neighbors. The kids need love in a big way (because neither parent shows it and they both bad-mouth the other one to the kids). But you can't save everyone- and I don't know if the kids are beyond saving or not.

I pray I don't see the boy in juvi hall in a few years. I hope I don't wind up working L&D and wind up seeing the girl on my floor at 15 and 9 months pregnant.............

We bought our land in the middle of nowhere on purpose (we didn't want neighbors!) But a lady moves across the street from us (The gov gives her a free lot of land and a free double wide trailer) She is a crack head! She has cars bumping loud mucic ALL NIGHT LONG! non stop traffic, trashy drug dealers and doers hanging around and to top it off she has like 5 dogs that run loose (pit bulls) that have had tons of litters of puppies, the poor puppies are always being attacked by other dogs, or hit by cars. We have found many of them homes without her knowing. We offered to have her dogs spayed, and she refuses! Animal control is no help, because we live outside county limits!

She got high one night and was outside butt naked dancing! TRASHY!! We called the cops and all she got was a WARNING????

Wow. I was feeling cranky about my pesky neighbors, but after reading some of these experiences, I don't feel so bad!

I was actually going to post about my neighbors today!
I've had an ongoing thing with my next door neighbor about her music. She actually can be very nice, and she's gone through some tough times with the father of her two boys - yelling, screaming, doors slamming, all sorts of stuff. He's since left. I still have an issue with her music, but it only goes on at certain times, and never late at night. But lately she's been screaming at her boys. Every day, for 3 days straight, I hear her nasal, screechy voice screaming through the walls.
They're 9 and 7, and so sweet, and I can hear one of them crying and sobbing.
Happened again today. Sheesh.

Then there's my neighbor across the hall. For some odd reason, she likes to prop her door open when she's frying food. It comes right into my studio apartment, across the hall, and gets into my clothes - I have to turn on the fan and open the windows wide. I've asked her several times (nicely) to please keep her door closed when she's frying food. She'll shrug and close the door, but then she ends up doing it again! She did it today. I opened my door a couple of times, hoping she'd hear me and close her door. Finally, I went down to the office and complained to the gals in the office about her. I didn't really want to get the building involved, because basically, this gal is a nice lady, but I've had it. She seems to have no clue!! What's up with that?! The gals in the office were very sympathetic and said, "Why doesn't she just open up her windows?" And they said they'd talk to her.

But, this seems very small, compared to some of the stuff all of you have had to put up with. Yikes. Why can't people be considerate of others?!?! It boggles the mind!!!

I don't have any problems with my direct neighbors on each side of my house, but the dang dogs across the street on the corner NEVER SHUT UP!!!! And the guy across the alley behind my house is a weirdo- he's like our "handyman" but he can be pretty useless sometimes. Plus his wife does NOT know how to park her huge van in the small spot that she parks in on our property so I have to park in the garage which is tough to get into when u have front wheel drive and there is a foot of unplowed/unsalted ice and snow in the alley...

My downstairs neighbor wakes me up at night with loud TV. At least I think it's TV. Whatever it is it's loud. Sometimes so loud I can make out what is being said.

The first time it happened I thought my TV had suddenly turned itself on.

When I complained I was told that the lady in the apartment below me is a poor widowed granny that has children, grandchildren, and their friends stay with her at times.

When I first moved in I was sure that the people below me had ten kids. There seemed to be a lot of noise in the late afternoon and early evening. But it would stop by the time I went to bed.

Then after awhile the kids seemed to go away. But then the TV noise started.

They also slam every door in the apartment, every time. Then some days there is the pounding noises like someone is building something. Even that I can live with because it stops at bed time.

I've complained to the management company and all I get is the poor old granny story and nothing is done.

Our unit is on the end but we do share a wall with one neighbor. The bedroom wall. When we moved it, it was occupied by a very sweet young woman who happened to love cats too. She had a beautiful long haired black boy. We would cat sit for her and she cat sit for us the one time we went out of town. We never heard her even when her BF was in town. Alas, she moved out of town.

Now we have a nice young man living next to us. He loves cats but cannot even be near one as he has a severe allergy to cats. He needs to go to the hospital if he gets in contact with one.

He is quiet for the most part, but he makes the most awful grunting, snoring and moaning noises when he sleeps. We can hear him through the wall! We are going to have to rearrange our bedroom furniture as the head of our beds and the head of his is next to the wall.

But most of our neighbors are quiet. We have had to tell some kids to turn their idiot rap music down a few times though.

I have had to deal with barking dogs, it seems, every time someone new moves into the neighborhood. However I am not one to suffer in silence. So I gear up for battle with barking dogs. Usually it ends up me calling Animal Control, but sometimes just the threat of AC is enough.

I'm not talking about dogs that bark a few times when they are let outside, I am talking about hours and hours of non stop barking. Sometimes there is other mistreatment involved such as no shelter or shade all day etc.

Smoke is a different issue. First there's the people next door, the woman was a heavy smoker, and I mean heavy. Their house is about 50 yards away with trees in between, but I could always tell when they had the windows open because my apartment would reek of cigarette smoke. Gawd it was disgusting. (I also had trouble with dogs with these people).

The lady died, and the man does not smoke as much I guess. (however he had a stroke, now has a live in nurse and she has two dogs which I had to battle with all summer. Finally, I think she put bark collars on the dogs. I feel bad for the dogs, but I cannot tolerate non stop high pitched (or any kind) of barking and these two little dogs never stop barking. I mean, never. Hours of it.

Then there was the trash burning people down the road. They burned trash every weekend. My home reeked, I couldn't hang laundry out. There was nothing I could do about it but suffer, and often was reduced to tears over the smell of it in my apartment. Fortunately my state just passed a law banning burn barrels, state wide law, so that has stopped.

A lot of people around here heat with wood though, so I still have to deal with the smell of smoke. Not much I can do about that, and it's bad, but not as horrid as the smell of burning trash.

However these are small issues compared to what some of you deal with.

I have had some lousy neighbors, too.

One funny story I will share. When I lived in Charlotte, NC I had a neighbor in an apartment complex who was a real jerk - loud music, slamming doors. I went to talk to him and he came on to me!!

Yuck!!

The bedrooms of the units shared a wall and one morning I head all kinds of um.... noises.... coming from the other side. I mean LOUD. Knocking headboard too.

Sooooo.... I decided I would get up and make some coffee and um.. wait until they were done.

We had a downstairs neighbor like that about 25 yrs ago. We could hear him talking to his GF the whole time. We just laid there and laughed at him since it was so funny.

None currently....at least not directly. Though at the far end of the hallway there is one or 2 apartments where the occupants and their visitors tend to be really loud in the back parking lot (my apartment faces that direction) and in the hallway. But it doesn't bother me a great deal.

Living in an apartment I've had my fair share of problem neighbours. Some fought like cats and dogs, others had loud/obnoxious parties, screaming kids, band practice, pot smokers and even drug dealers.

Thankfully the people who are living around me directly, are pretty good!

I've never had issues with neighbours, I've never lived in an apartment building though where it seems many have issues.

Just moved house a couple of days ago into a quiet street, most of the neighbours have introduced themselves already.
Lady across the road has an Oriental and "just had to come over" after seeing us unload cat tree after cat tree after cat tree
Cat people are always nice

The only problem I have with a neighbor is that he has a yard light that can iluminate a mall parking lot. Its way too tall and its not like he has a valuable house or anything.
Living in the country people are way to fond of yard lights. We have one too but only have it on at night if we are snowblowing or if people are over. Otherwise its turned off at the circuit breaker.

The only other problem we have is with the traffic from the mega dairy (4000 cows) located 5 miles away. They use our road alot for hauling manure (in tankers). But the state of Wisconsin is changing the maximum daily loads so we might have relief. They can't haul in winter thankfully.
