Unwanted cat - spraying

Can anyone offer any advise on how to stop an unwanted cat entering my garden. I wouldn't usually mind but he is now spraying over anything an everything that he can....the dust bins, the patio set, in fact pretty much eveytime I touch somethin in my garden I end up with hands that, well don't small good to say the least. The problem is, that I own a cat, who at 10 years of age, has now stopped defending her teritory, and really couldn't give a monkeys who is in her garden! I also own an German Sheppherd dog, who seems to love cats and refuses to chase this stray out! Ever witnessed a pet OWNER running up the garden chasing off the stray cat whilst the dog sits there watching????
Since I own a cat, I can't use the usual pet stoe deterents to keep it out! What can I do?????? I don't mind the cat...ut the peeing has ot to be stopped!!

Any idea how old the kitty is? If less than a few years, you could crate/trap the cat, take him to be neutered, and when the hormones run out of his system that may help stop the problem.

I use to put cayenne pepper around my door at an apartment cause all the stray cats I kept getting spraying my door and it seemed to work.

Does the cat have an owner? If so, try to track them down somehow and make sure the cat is or will get neutered. If not, call the RSPCA over there.

The simple solution would be for people to realize that cats, like dogs, shouldn't be allowed to roam anywhere at free will. Solves lots of problems.

Sounds like a lovable cat who has won your animals over. I am sorry he is destroying your property.
Where does he live? Maybe you can talk to the owner? I would be inclined to get the cat neutered in hopes he didn't have to spray everything.

Thanks for all the advice! I have no idea if he has an owner or not. I have asked around the neighbourhood and no one seems to know who owns him, yet he does look in quite good health.

I contacted the RSPCA today, who, quite frankly told me that there was nothing they could do unless he looked injured or was suffering from serious neglect, at present they are in undated with stray cats since the bad weather we have had here, as quite often cats get lost in the snow!

Would give the pepper a try, but just worried that it may upset my own cat???

Thanks again guys!!

If it's going to bother the other cat, it will bother yours. I maintain my original suggestion - get him neutered. In older cats this may not change the behavior. But in younger cats, it often stops the spraying to mark territory.

Sorry to hear that they won't do anything. Did you ask if they would at least loan you a humane trap (since you've been chasing the cat, it's not going to come to you) and if there were any low cost neuter options?
