Revolution

Normally I give Kiki Revolution once a month for fleas, worms, ear mites, heart worms...etc. However, the place I get it from (on base) doesn't carry the version for kittens less than 5 pounds which is what I need for Whisper. My question is: Is it necessary to even give them anything like that if they are indoors? The only thing I have ever noticed is the ear mites.

**My vet doesn't carry Revolution and they don't give heartworm pills for cats.

I have found a place online I can order the kitten formula for about $35.00 with shipping, but I don't know if it's worth it or not.

It's not necessary to keep treating for earmites once they're gone (cats only get them from other infested cats through direct contact -grooming). Same with roundworms on an indoor only cat - unless you have an animal in the home that does go out and could bring them in. Fleas just depends on the area you live and whether you can avoid them. For those of us who have a winter, usually we can skip a few months. Same with heartworms.

Talk to your vet about whether they think there's a big risk of mosquito bites indoors in January down there.

Just want to mention that indoor-only cats CAN get heartworms (Riley had them).

Also, my two currently have fleas even though its cold here and they never go outside So they are on a winter-time dose of Frontline now.

p.s. Just noticed you live in LA. I would think you would be in a high-risk area for mosquitos, so I would definitely check with your vet and see if they think it is necessary during the winter months.

We still have mosquitos..I've seen them. Plus my dog goes in and out to go potty and for walks. I guess my main concern is heart worms and other worms.

^Mosquitoes have always ruined any trips to Louisiana for me. Surely your vet has something to give kittens?

I don't have issues with fleas in the winter here - and we have mild winters. In fact I usually don't treat unless I get fleas - which could mean the cats will go ~8-20 months without flea treatments. I do not have a dog, though. Heartworm isn't too major of an issue in my area due to how dry it is (we trade bad mosquito problems for fire danger).

If you have to order it, at least try to stick to well known suppliers such as 1800petmeds or doctor fosters and smith.
