Hello all,

I have a nine month old male kitty, Oscar. He is healthy as a horse except I noticed some mild chin acne a few days ago. Since then, I changed all his bowls to stainless steel and ceramic. He does have a pet fountain that is plastic, but I clean it really well every other day. He is on a diet of taste of the wild and blue wilderness dry and canned of a variety of the good brands like blue, evangers, taste of the wild, innova ect. I have been scrubbing his chin with diluted hydrogen peroxide and it seems to be getting a little better. It actually wasn't too bad, just some of the black debris and redness on his chin. What I noticed tonight though is right under his collar is a hairless spot about the same size as the plastic snap on his safety collar. I am wondering if he is allergic to the plastic. He does scratch at the collar but has no fleas. I am wondering if I need to change the collar and to what. It seems like all the cat collars have those plastic snaps. I suppose I could take the collar off but would really prefer the collar on incase he gets out.
I am going to take him to work tommorrow to have my boss look at him, but we saw a really bad chin acne kitty today with an ulcerated nasty swollen chin, but I really think the owners waited to long or didn't notice. I want to nip this in the bud. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would probably forego cleaning with peroxide and maybe applying some Neosporin to the area twice daily? That's what I used on my old cat who had this.

As for the collar issue; could you possibly just take it off for a week to let things settle down and then that might help you confirm that the issue is caused by the collar? Don't they have collars with a metal thingy as opposed to plastic? (maybe I'm not understanding what part of the collar you're talking about)
