I know many of you have read my posts about Sampson, the little red-eyed cream hamster I adopted after taking in small animal fosters from a severe hoarding situation. And, since it's been a little while since I've last posted an update on the little guy, I thought I'd do so here. For those of you interested in the back-story, you can visit the original thread here: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=210442.

I looked back at my old thread and the last update I gave was on January 9th. A lot of time has passed since then and I'm thrilled to report that Sampson has made a complete recovery
. He is doing better than I could ever have expected. He's my little fighter and I'm so proud of him! But, even more than that, I am so very grateful for everyone who offered prayers or vibes for my little boy. Even my vet has said that his being alive today (and thriving!) is miraculous. He's an amazing little guy and I'm so honored that he is a part of my life and that God saw me fit in being a part of his...

The first couple of days after returning from the vet were difficult. He wasn't eating as much as he should have been and he still wasn't getting enough fluid into his system. I had to syringe him water, Pedialyte, and Bene-bac. But, as the days passed, he became stronger and was more eager to move about, drink from his water bottle, and even nibble on some of his food. I don't think I'll ever forget the day when I came home from work to see him lapping up water from his water bottle. Nor do I think I'll forget being woken up from a deep sleep (my first since he fell ill) due to the squeak-squeak-squeak of Sampson running like a maniac on the wheel in his cage. From then on, I knew we were out of the danger zone.

He went back to the vet this past week for a check-up and she gave him a clean bill of health
. Today, there's no remnant of the illness which nearly took his life. He appears to be a happy, well-adjusted, loving hamster and he is a joy for me in my life. I'm so glad he survived and that he'll continue to thrive. Sampson beat the odds on more than one occasion and he's proof to me that there is always a reason to fight.

Thank you all for your love, support, and vibes. They worked! They really did work!

Wow I can't believe I missed your other threads about him!! I am soooo glad the baby boy made a full recovery!!!
Wet tail can be really bad in hamsters, so I can see why your vet calls his recovery miraculous!! I know exactly what you mean to be happily awaken by an exercise wheel
... I used to have a hamster, she was my one and only true love at the time, I had no other pets. They are so not throw away pets, I hate that people think so. When I came home it was always that I went straight to her cage to say hello to her first thing, well I was actually yelling "hello little baby girl" and doing alll kinds of baby talk as I was going up the stairs on my way to her..She just meant so much to me, I know they are such tiny animals and it's hard to near impossible to communicate with them due to their intelligence level, but it's just as easy to get attached to them as it is with kitties or dogs..
