Agressive mother !

I recently got both my cats fixed. The mother is over a year and her son is almost 6 months old..
When we got them fixed the vet told us to keep the cones on for 10 days, then take them off. We took off the mothers cone after 10 days because her incision healed fine but the little one had some complications and it got infected. We decided to keep the cone on until the scab falls off so right now he still has it on but his mother doesnt.

We have noticed ever since the first day that we took off the mother's cone that whenever the kitten is in a hyper mood and goes near the mother, she hisses at him, pats him and even loudly growls sometimes. She's really agressive towards him and we want to know why?

Is it because he still has his cone on and she doesn't like it?

I've never had cones on spays, much less neuters. But yes, I can pretty much guarantee that part of the problem is that she doesn't want a cone anywhere near her after 10 days, even if it's on someone else. Plus I'm sure it spooks her. Some of it will be the smell of her son (he had to go back to the vet, correct?), too.

All you can do it hope everything settles down after everyone has healed up or reintroduce them.

No, we didnt take him back. We called the emergency number given to us and they told us to use hydrogen peroxide on the incision and if it doesnt get any better than bring him back... But the day after we started using it so we didn't take him back.
Its been getting better and better everyday.

Im just worried that itll get to a point where the momma hurts her son, because its getting worsee

Separate them till he's better, then reintroduce them? Does she have stitches that need to be removed in a few days? If so, discuss her aggression with the vet then. Maybe she's not feeling too well and is redirecting this as aggression towards her son. If she doesn't have to go back, maybe still call and see what they suggest.

UPDATE : We took off the kittens cone today but the mother is still VERY agressive towards him. We were in the family room watching tv about an hour ago and we heard her hiss and make this noise that sounded like it came from the devil! It was EXTREMLY loud and they were all the way upstairs. It was soo loud, and she is hissing at him more also. Please note that they have never fought before. Help anyone?!?

It can happen that mums do not want the babies around after a while. Some can live happily together, others cannot.

Try keeping them apart and doing a slow reintroduction, exchanging their scents etc.

Its really weird though because she only became like this AFTER we brought her home from the vet after fixing, and only after we took off HER cone but not his... Could something of happened at the vet?
