New Playmate for Kitty That Lost His Sister?

Lost my little Emma a little over a month ago :o(

I think we are finally ready for a new playmate for her brother, Kaiser. They were the sole two of the litter and had been together always.

Kaiser is a big cat, very muscular (also very, very pretty!!!) almost like a small dog. He used to be quite skittish and really didn't like much attention, except from myself. Emma was the vocal attention demander. He did get a little rough with her, which I think she actually liked, because she would cry, but then egg him on. She was solid and pretty tough.

Since she's gone, his personality has changed quite a bit. He follows me everywhere, wakes me up every morning at 3AM without fail and demands attention, sits on my lap every chance he gets and even hangs out and begs strangers for attention! (the brave little man!)

All the detail because originally, I was going to set him up with a little girl playmate, since he'd been used to her. But now his personality is so different, I don't know if that's the best way to go. I'm worried I may get a cat that doesn't like to play so rough and he might hurt it as well. Suggestions?

Welcome to TheCatSite,
I am sorry for your loss.
It sounds like Kaiser misses his sister.

I experienced a similar situation, a few months ago.
When we lost my male kitty's sister Sadie to cancer, Dexter became lethargic and depressed.

Dexter is a bit of a bully, who plays hard and wants to be the king of his world. After some research, I decided that if I adopted again, I would need an outgoing kitty, who would not be intimated by his dominance.
Because he was almost 9 years old when we lost his sister, I decided that I need an adult, female kitty, who was a social butterfly, so that she would not be intimidated by Dexter.

I went to several shelters in our area, explained what I was looking for in a cat, after about a week, at one of the shelters, I was shown Isis. She seemed like a perfect fit, and joined our family. After an introduction period, Dexter began to heal.
It has worked out really well for us.

You are wise to think carefully about this...
If you decide to adopt, learn all you can about introducing a new cat to an old cat.

Please make yourself at home.

Rest in peace Emma.
