I was driving home yesterday from work and took the on ramp to the highway.
The truck was/seemed very jerky so I took next ramp off (I would have anyway) and this continued.
I made Neil drive it to work today and he continued with this and when he was driving home the check engine light came on.
We can get the vehicle in Thursday for service locally but we just spent a chunk of $$ this fall doing some maintenance to include new spark plugs.(platinum).

Hoping its not a major probably. I asked hubby of ok to drive tomorrow as yes lucky me has to drive (17 miles one way) it and he replied well th didn't say not to drive it! YIKES!!

I'm staying off the highway tomorrow and driving no more than 45MPH to work and back as its seems work at higher speeds.

Much vibes that nothing happens to me or the truck please!!

OK, without a scantool (which you can get pretty cheaply at some place like Harbor Freight, for vechicles 1996 and newer) you can't know what the problem is. But I can give you the rundown of the likely culprits.

1. Gas cap loose.

2. Oxygen sensor bad.

3. Catalytic converter plugged up.

4. Dirty throttle throat.

5. Bad coil pack.

What make and year is the truck?

Also, I'm not sure what kind of auto parts places you have up there, most of them around here will do a free code check and tell you what the problem (supposedly) is. Maybe it's something easy that you can just take care of right there in the parking lot or back in the garage and you won't have to shell out all the $$ to take it to the shop.

That's true, I forgot that such places as Auto Zone will put the scantool on your car for free.

Picked the truck up last night. about $300 repair bill.

It was a bad coil which was replaced. The owner of the small shop where we take our vehicles said I could have driven it at my normal speed without harm instead of upsetting lots of drivers as I went back roads home top speed of 43 mph!! Bummer for me.

Funny thing is that when I was driving to repair shop the service engine soon light went off. But then was told it would probably come back on.

So its good to go again
