getting a new freind

Thread Starter
i had 2 cats they would have been about a year and a half old by now but 1 of them got run over just before his 1st bday, since then the other cat hasnt really been him self and seems really bored apart from a few rare occasions where he will find something daft to play with

when we went on holiday he was put in to a cattery and startede pul;ling his hair out this was in september and hes still doing it now he got perscribed some tablets and it seemed to do the trick but after the tablets he got back to pulling his hair out he now has bald patches and broken skin and scabs in places

because he seems bored we were thinking of getting a kitten to give him a mate but having second thoughts because of him pulling out his hair and he might teach the new kitten this behaviour, on the other side he might wise up and start looking after the new kitten please advise

if it helps my cat (baby dont ask !!!) has has his bits chopped

Though cats do learn things from watching other cats, I'm almost positive the kitten wouldn't pick up a habit like hair pulling. I felt that Speck was lonely after Smoke died, and that was one of the reason we chose to bring other cats into our home. After the initial rocky introductions, all is now well. Good luck.

I don't have any advise for your other problem, but I just wanted to say that I used to have a male cat that I called Baby. There's nothing wrong with that.

It seems that he needs more medical attention. Obviously he is still suffering from some skin condition. Stress can cause this also as you know.

If you do end up getting another cat, please keep them inside. It is a dangerous world out there for our kitties.

I had a male Red cat named Baby (rb 1/98 ). He was my soul mate.

I agree another young cat is a good idea, and we can help you with the integration, there are certain steps you will want to take.

However, I agree that Baby's health should come first, perhaps getting him back on the medicine (what was it? amitritptyline? clomicalm?) for awhile.

Be sure you are paying enough attention to Baby yourself, he needs you to play with him every day. Giving him interactive Game time with you at the same time every day will go a long way toward easing his anxiety.

A couple feliway plug ins may help, too.

Keep us posted!

Have you tried Feliway? Sounds like he's stressed and lonely. The Feliway may calm him down so that the hair pulling subsides.
