Took my precious kitty in for a neuter on Friday. He's a healthy male, 5 months old. He's been doing very well since we got him back from the vet on Friday. Good appetite and as friendly as he's always been. Everything's been great up til now. My fiancee checked the site a lil while ago and he noticed some redness and oozing from the site. I'm stuck at work til 5 tonight plus over an hour drive home so I had my fiancee take our little one to the vet immediately. I am so worried about him. I hope he's going to be ok. I know its probably going to be fine but I can't help but worry so much about him, and I'm so far away. I feel helpless. Anyone have any experience with oozing/redness after a neuter? Does this mean infection? How is it treated? I hate not knowing. And I won't hear anything until after they get back from the vet

It happens, occasionally. Not surprising considering the location of the surgery on the cat.

They will probably clean it up, check any sutures, possibly re-suture or re-glue the wound, possibly apply some antibiotics to the wound and give him an antibiotic shot, and maybe give you some antibiotics to give him for the next week.

I've seen some pretty bad infections, and they've all cleared up.

Sounds like a typical infection. I'm sure that the vet will take care of it clear it and make it clean and re-suture or glue or whatever they used to close up the neuter site.

It doesn't surprise me that it is infected, that part of any animal seems to get very moist very quick.

No worries, your little guy will be fine!

Thank you so much for your input! After the vet visit, it turns out our kitty is going to be just fine like i thought he would. I'm just a worried mom who loves her baby.

Your concern and worry does you no discredit. I feel the same over my cats. We want them to be safe and happy, and it hurts when they are not, for whatever reason.

Peace of mind is everything, and taking him to the vet was the right thing to do.

I would rather hear you took him to the vet when he didn't need it, than that you didn't take him when he did!

One of my foster boys .... same thing.. incision just didn't look right. It was a good move on my part and the vet assured me I wasn't being an over -reactive pet mom.
