I was just reading about Laparascopic Spay in this thread:

http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...=1#post2807031

As I had never heard of it in animals before I am very interested. I read the link provided in the other thread, but according to the description of the surgery, if I read it right, the reproductive organs are not removed at all, just something is done to prevent ovulation. (cauterizing the ovaries?)

Is this correct? Or have I missed something?

My concern is, if they do not remove the organs, doesn't it leave the kitty still vulnerable to uterine cancer and pyometra?

Most vets do flank speys here, having the tiny wound on the side instead of a large tummy wound makes it more comfortable for the cat and less stitches are pulled out by the kitty. Also easier for them to move around.

From what I just read on google, they remove the same stuff.

The difference is that there is 65% less pain, only 2-3 very small incisions that do NOT need stitches, and it is done by a tiny camera inserted though one incision. The instruments that they use for the procedure are inserted through the other incision.

Pretty neat, but I do not think most vets offer this.

Her pic looked good, it is very small.

Your vet sounds awesome! I doubt that my vet knows how to do it that way, I will ask next time I am there.

It is deff worth the extra $ since they are in less pain, and no stitches to tear out.

Ther stitches inside and glue on the outside.
My vet even called Cleosbreeder to get the right shots for her because they did not have the purvax.
To bad Cleo is being mean to her.
The rest of the cats sniffed her and were fine.
