Wrinkles gets altered tomorrow

Thread Starter
We drop Wrinkles off at the vet at 8:20 tomorrow to get altered.
I am paying $100 extra for a Laparoscopic Spay.
Here is more info on it.
This is not my vet but this is where it all started.
http://www.dvmr.com/pdf/Gandy%20Animal%20Hospital.pdf
Sasha was done this way last Feb.
I have already told the vet no Metacam or Ketamine.
The vet will put her in a incubater after because she is a sphynx and they get very cold from surgery fast.
She also told me to bring a sweater for her.
They will put it on her as soon as she is done.
She also will try to do her first because she is a sphynx.
I am still scared though.
My Lucy almost died from being altered years ago and my mentors cat almost bled to death last monday.
She was her breeding sphynx but for some reason she got not get preg,
So she had to have her altered.
We are doing blood tests also.
Cleo was done the normal way beforeI got her and you can really see her scar even though it has been over a year.

I know nothing about sphynx kitties, so sorry I'm no help there. But it sounds like you are well prepared and asked all the right questions and got the right info to care for her.

I'm sure she will be alright- heck I had two of my guinea pigs neutered, and they came out of it fine. So a cat I would assume would recover quicker. Don't worry so much- if a scar is the only price she has to pay, then so be it. It's not like you will love her any less if she has a little scar on her belly.

And if I were you, I'd just think of all the benefits of getting a female cat spayed. I mean, there's always the "no kittens" issue, but then there are other things like ovarian cancer and stuff like that that you would be avoiding.

She will be fine, don't worry too much because she will feed off of your emotions and you don't want her going into a surgery as a nervous wreck. Cats are very in-tune with their owner's emotions, I've figured that out myself. So just keep in an upbeat spirit, and treat her the same you would treat her any other day. It'll be absolutely fine

Thanks,
My Sasha had it done the lapo way last year but she is a RB mix not a sphynx.
Sphynx are sensitive to so many meds.

See, like I said- I know nothing about sphynx kitties! lol. All I know is that they are naked with a bit of fuzz all over their bodies. And honestly, I've never had to go through a spay/neuter with any of my kitties because by the time I had gotten them, they were already altered. Pirate was the only one that I had to keep an eye on, because the day before I adopted him was the day he was neutered. But it's totally different in male cats- that I know. It's much easier (I always say just snip snip and tie it up! lol and it's basically true)

Keep us posted- definitely let us know how it goes tomorrow! (well technically where I am right now it IS tomorrow lol) but you know what I mean

Thanks,
I will let you know how it goes.
We have a major storm coming in and I hate taking her out in high winds and heavy rain.
My other sphynx was altered right before I got her and I was scared until her breeder emailed saying she was fine.
My vet has only done one sphynx before.
I had 2 of my girls done at my vet last year and it was fine.
One was a lapo and the other had a bad infection so it was done reg.

Thanks,
I hope Cleo does not hiss and growl at her now.
She did it to Meeko and Sasha after they were altered.

I read up on lapo, lol! Is Wrinkles still groggy from the anesthesia?

Is Cleo being nice?

Chicken hissed at ME after she was spayed, lol.

Cleo is not being nice at all.
She is hissing and growling.
In fact Wrinkles got mad back.
Cleo is scared of her.
The other cats are all nice to Wrinkles.
Wrinkles was never groggy just tired.
In fact every cat that I had that had surgery at this vet has not been groggy.
They were at my old vet though before I moved here.
Her eyes are still dialated though.

Cleo said that Wrinkles smells like the vet, lol. She will come around after she realizes that Wrinkles is the same cat.

My girl cats were all groggy for a day or two. The boys were just groggy for a few hours. It is good that she isn't, I hate seeing them like that.

Cleo was mean for 3 weeks the last 2 times my cats had surgery.
She is the only one that act that way.
If they stay at the vets and do not have surgery she is nice to them.
Her paw is almost normal now.

Glad that Wrinkles is doing good. It is funny how Cleo reacts to after-surgery buddies.

Thanks,
The vet thinks it is because she remembers when she was altered.
It only happens when one of them has surgery.
Well, with surgery the chemical balance in their bodies is altered from the anesthesia. So it's not just the cat smelling like him or herself, with a vet smell over that. The cat who has surgery probably doesn't smell like herself at ALL for a few days.

I'm glad wrinkles is home, safe and sound!

Thanks,
The vet called and asked how she is.
They always do that and give detailed instructions.
That is good that her paw is better! I hope Cleo doesn't take so long to come around lol. That can't be fun w/cats arguing!

Wrinkles tried to play with her and was licking her.
Cleo was hissing and growling the whole time.
Wrinkles is not allowed to play so I put her in a cage at night that we bought for the hotels when we show.
She tried to jump on the chair and fell.

Awww, poor baby!

I do the same thing when one of mine have surgery, they go in a crate when I cannot supervise them. After Bear had his P/U surgery he got at the top of the cat tree (5ft tall) and was about to jump down. And Bella loves to pull her stiches/staples out so every time she needs surgery (3 so far) she has to wear a cone, and she gets the cone stuck on everything (like the corner of the bed & between chair legs). I have crazy cats, lol.

I tried a cone on Meeko last year and she slammed her head agaisnt the wall and destroyed it.
Why dont use ask for disolving stitches when you have the girls altered.
That is what my vet uses.
Cleo had them also before I got her.
Wrinkles tried to jump on a chair yesterday and fell.
There are disolving stitches on the inside and glue on the outside.
Sasha sounds as silly as my Bella, lol.

I didn't realize that the dissolving ones where internal! Wow, I will deff do that next time, lol. Thanks!

Ask your vet about it.
It is so much better.
My Teyah was just spayed on Monday and has the dissolvable stitches, so much easier! Luckily none of the other kitties gave her any trouble at all when she came home, and she is doing wonderfully. She stayed overnight at the vet though, so she wasn't groggy at all when we brought her home.
