Speck's being bad! Help!

For the first few weeks Marshmallow was with us, Speck and Daisy were afraid of him. They steered clear of the living room, where Marshmallow had set up camp. All he had to do was take a step toward them, and they'd run. Then things settled down in time, as the usually do. Speck and Marshmallow began to play together. Daisy and Marshmallow had a little territory war over ownership of the cat tree. Everybody was happy.

Now there's a problem. Almost every night, Speck grabs Marshmallow by the nap of the neck and throws him down. He stands over him, holding him down. Marshmallow screams and screams. We try to break it up, but sometimes it happens while were asleep. I haven't found any signs of injury on Marshmallow (i.e. bites on his neck), but I know he finds the situation very traumatic. Both of them have been neutered. What's going on and how can I stop it?

Kipper is neutered and does this too. His picks one cat and terrorizes them for about a week before moving on to someone else. Feliway calmed him down quite a bit but he still does it on occasion. I would assume you already use Feliway though, or at least know about it and have considered it. I'm curious to hear what other people have to say about this since I deal with the same thing.

I don't have any Feliway at the moment - after I used it with Daisy's introduction DH actually threw out my pricey little wall plug-in. (If it's not nailed down around here, it gets thrown away .)

It's funny because the trouble didn't develop immediately. After Speck got over being scared of Marshmallow (a younger and smaller cat) they played so happily together. I was thrilled because Speck finally had someone to play with, and he seemed happy, too. Speck loves other cats. I'm not sure what went wrong.

If Marshmallow's not being hurt, I think it's just a turf war. They need to decide who's on the top of the pecking order. Also, if Marshmallow is a kitten, it's the way Speck is teaching him to respect his elders. But obviously make sure he's not being hurt!

Marshmallow is about a year old (unsure of his exact age, as he was a stray). I am relieved with you answer. He isn't being hurt...though it is painful to watch because he's a small cat and Speck looks a lot larger. And the awful screaming Marshmallow does may just be fright or drama. Gee, my llama Butterbean never causes this kind of trouble.

See, llamas are just superior pets! LOL
