I have never asked my newest rescue group for assistance with food, litter, etc... anything. They were nice enough to let me show with them and will screen potential applicants.

But today they offered me food and litter. So off we went to their storage area... and there was a bag of NV Instinct Chicken. So I said - I'll take that... obviously donated to them.

I took it home and opened it to make sure that it was still ok... the boys LOVED it! However, I noticed it is high in calories so I think I will just use it as treats.

That's about $14 worth of cat kibble.

the Instinct wet chicken made one of my boys vomit. I figured what the hey... it's free... let's see if they will eat it. I will just use it judiciously b/c TOTW is about 100 cal. less than Instinct.

Will cats eat Prairie?

Also - isn't this a company that makes raw for cats?

I at least know some personally who will eat Prairie
...

Yes they make both "fresh" and dehydrate raws

Instinct canned chicken was a bust among our four cats this morning!

Maybe they make their profit by selling "sample" cans to experimenters like me!

My boys are fine with grain free dry.. it's the wet food they won't eat unless I put "glop" on it of some sort... or fishy stuff.

Even then they only eat about half.. and I don't give them all that much in one feeding. I was low on food the other day and desperate to get a couple of them to eat some wet so I took some cat sardines in aspic that I have decided I don't like and mashed it up with a little watery human darker canned tuna. Eeep! Archie almost took my hand off when I put it down on the floor.

I always use grain free food for my cats. I feed Orijen right now, also high calorie/protein... However mine don't seem to like the Instinct Chicken very much. I had a free bag of the rabbit formula I won in a raffle and they liked that ok but didn't really care for the chicken formula.

Mine didn't like the canned - which is surprising, because they both loove canned food. Hmmm...

(I fed Instinct to my dogs once... it was NOT pretty....)

My cats liked the Instinct dry well enough (and it was great for their coats and their tummies) except for the fact that it is so crumbly. Ginger will only eat big pieces of kibble, so I was always left with a bowl of crumbs.

My one cat loves the Homestyle Prairie canned from NV - especially the turkey. I also feed him the Instinct varieties - rabbit, venison, duck, lamb, beef - he doesn't like the chicken in either line. My cats didn't like the dry though. I guess it varies. I do feed the frozen raw diet to my dog - in the chubs - cheaper that way but a lot messier! My dog likes the NV canned as well.

My cats eat the lamb and oatmeal praire kibble. I mix it with Purina one. They seem to do well on it. One cat doesn't do well on chicken. Lamb NV was one of the few dry foods that doesn't have chicken. It seems to be gentle on the tummy, as well.

Neko's being fed Prairie Salmon Meal and it seems to keep her fuller longer! 1/3 cup lasts her ALL Day! Plus she gets a little bit of canned. I may need to cut back to 1/4 so she eats a full can of wet. She did not like the instinct canned food; she smelled it and walked away. Even I thought that the smell of instinct canned was horrible!
