I live on a farm, out in the middle of nowhere. I now have 21 cats, many of which are here become someone else can't face up to their responsibilities. I feed them, I foot their vet bills, I provide shelter for them, and if I don't get to them first (or before the coyotes) I scrape their bodies off the road and bury them.

People who dump animals in the country should witness the true reality of it. They get sick. They starve. It would make watching a pet be euthanized seem like a walk in the park. All that aside, I believe it's a crime.
I agree with you Cinder, there ARE much worse things than euthanasia. I couldn't dump my animal, I just couldn't, if I couldn't make arrangements I would have the animal PTS.

Not fair for the animal to be dumped and not fair to the person that gets dumped on.

Euthanising a cat at local vets is 90-120 and more if you want to be with them) plus another $45-70 for 'disposal' (cremation without ashes) and more if you want their ashes back. Animal control will euthanise & dispose for just under $150 but surrendering your pet is $30 and they have a 'stray dropoff' no questions asked - guess how many people drop off their sick animals for free - hence why so many animal controls are underfunded - they are paying for other people's problems.
