Nice to see Presidents Bush and Clinton at the White House. I wish Barack didn't like the sound of his own voice so much and would let THEM talk.

Already it is being reported that people who are receiving aid food are being robbed as soon as they leave the distribution station. I expect aid trucks to be attacked very soon.

I wouldn't give anything to the Red Cross, but I know people who really believe in them. Both my mother and Dottie's folks had very bad experiences with the Red Cross and vowed never to give them anything again.

I don't know the solution; remember, aid failing to get to the people was the original reason the U.S. sent our military into Somalia. It didn't get any better, and ultimately almost the entire world has abandoned them, giving them up as a hopeless cause.

Ahh, President Bush just talked, I love that man.
It is SO good to see that bipartinship is still possible, at least in times of dire need.
Good for Barack for calling on Presidents Clinton and Bush.

I heard an interview on 700wlw am with a reporter who was at the airport on Friday. The reporter said there was aid piling up at the airport but it wasn't being distributed at that point in time. The reason why was that the various relief agencies were concerned about security...which is part of the reason why the 82d Airborne deployed (along with 2000 Marines as well as peacekeepers under the UN banner).

I just hope someone is concentrating on getting them all a water supply, I watched the news the other night and one of the Haiti resients said we don't want money, we need water and food, its that that will keep us alive at the moment. Obviously they need the money to buy supplies and to help later on, I just feel so sorry for these people, its bad enough what has happened but the heat is sweltering and no water supply. I pray someone is sorting it. x

So did Sandra Bullock.

Giselle Budchen - 1.5 million

If someone was smart enough to schedule a ship with a desalinization plant onboard to ship the Marines and 82nd Airborne out on, they can use that to get an emergency water supply up and running (imagine running a really big garden hose out to the ship; that's the general idea).

Tiger Woods gave 3 million.

Watch CNN, they have the very BEST coverage.

It is not as bad as some are making it out to be. Where that happened that mrblanche was talking about, helicopters were dropping supplies from the air and there was no security on the ground.

I don't blame the people one bit. They are thirsty, hungry, tired and desperate.
When anyone is put in the position they are in, civilized behavior goes out the window, we would be just like that.

I have seen footage of the people waiting 12 HOURS for water and waiting quietly with no trouble at all. That was at a place where there was security.

On another forum I frequent a few of the FAR right are saying that our military should not be in Haiti. That really bummed me out, I spent a lot of time in that thread yesterday. It made me ashamed to be a right winger.

With no water they will all die anyway so what is the point of giving millions of pounds/dollars just at the minute, that will be needed later on, its material things they need at the minute, obviously yes money to buy the material items but I would say a decent water supply is the top of the list, then care for the orphans, shelter e.t.c.. and a proper place tput the bodies, the heat will be causing alot of prob;lems with diseases e.t.c.. I think everyone who is out there is doing a fab job, I could not do something like that. x

Water is getting in, believe me.
I saw the people with 5-gallon water bottles filling them up.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton brought a lot of water with her. Water is coming in fast and furious. Don't believe everything you hear.

Watch CNN if you have cable, they are doing such an awesome job.

The USS Carl Vinson can create up to 400,000 gallons of potable water every day. Granted, it is created for on-ship uses but I'm sure they could divert some of it to help on land.

Which is just silly and typical of someone who has no clue what they are talking about. The military element of the relief mission provides a lot more than just security. The command-and-control elements provide vital logistical support for the distribution of aid and in making sure the aid gets where it is supposed to go. To go even further they will also bringing in much needed medical help, aid in clearing debris, reopen the port, and the list goes on. They are just as important to the mission as the civilian relief agencies are.

Once the government has our money, where is the watchdog to assure that the money will be well-spent? The current administration has unapologetically thrown away our taxpayer dollars for the past year. No way would I trust them to send donated funds to the appropriate relief organizations.
How do you know where your money is going regardless of which organization you donate to? This administration hasn't thrown away any more of our money than the previous administration. Would you have trusted them with your donation? I sure as heck wouldn't have. And I didn't go to whitehouse.gov this time to donate either.
