I know I'm new here and most of you wouldn't notice if I was gone but I haven't been able to post as much as I'd like this week. School started this week and I've already been assigned at least a dozen hours of homework.

I've also been out of work for about 6 months now but recently got a call from a company that needed my "skills." I've been covering for someone who got hurt on the job. I'm grateful that they called when they did, I could definitely use the money.. but it's a long drive.

Anyway, on to the main body of my rant. I drove over an hour away to buy a textbook that I couldn't find anywhere else. I reserved it online using my credit card but when I got there they hadn't pulled the book aside for me. No big deal, there were a few still on the shelf so they had me grab one and bring it up to the counter. I paid and left.

Today I'm checking my credit card balance and they must've charged me for the reserved copy that they never reserved too, cause now there's 2 charges worth 240 dollars for my 1 book on my credit card and I have to drive all the way back to get a refund on the extra charge.

Just letting out some frustration...

Wow that sux!! They are so incompetent
You should ask that they do it over the phone and email you a receipt that the money has been refunded- you shouldn't be driving all the way there and taking up your time when it's their mistake!

Believe me, I pushed and prodded to get them to do it over the phone since it's their fault and it's such a long drive but no luck. They won't do it over the phone. Normally I'm not a jerk to people who are just doing their job but I couldn't help it in this case.

The lady that picked up the phone just sounded like she wanted me to come in and get off the phone after a 30 second phone call, but there was no way I was letting her get off the phone without promising me I'd get a refund if I came out. I was very cranky

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
I know how you feel with that. Ive worked in customer service fields forever and I generally am pretty patient when it comes down to other people doing their jobs but there are times when I really get irritated at those people. I went out to eat once and the waitress took 30 min to take our drink order another 20 to bring them back (really an ice tea and coke arent that hard to get) and then forever and a day to take our food order and get that out to us. We literally were in the restaraunt for almost two hours just waiting for stuff. I know the managers of that place and know that their sections are that big (maybe 4 tables) and that they only have to take care of their tables. So it really isnt that hard to do it was just annoying and by the end of the meal I was just grabbed the closest manager I could find and told them what happened and why I was mad. Probably the most ackward position Ive ever been offered a job in but I will not work in a place that serves alcohol and expects me to serve it and work closely with it or else I would have taken the job to show that waitress a thing or two about how to do her job and do it right!!!

You used your credit card. Call them and see if they will deal with it - that's what you pay those fees for.

That is why I hate using cards for purchases!!! There is a huge chance for some sort of mixup. But they are just so darn convienent sometimes...

I'm sorry about all the busy hours, but hooray for a job right?

Is the job pay worth the money you spend in gas to drive out there?

I agree; call your credit card company. And yes, it really stinks that the store messed up the way they did. Good luck.

Wow, I can understand your frustration. College textbooks are ridiculously expensive. When DS was in school, we paid his college tuition. One set of grandparents paid for all of his textbooks; the other set of grandparents sent him money every week, so he wasn't broke all the time. We were all glad when he graduated.

Hope you can get it all cleared up. Every dollar counts.

If you haven't made the trip to get the refund, you should call and ask to speak to the manager about the duplicate charge to your credit card. There is no reason why they can bill your card over the phone, but cannot give you the credit over the phone. That's just asinine. If they refuse, threaten them with reporting them to the credit card company. Good luck!

Thanks everyone for your advice.

I called the credit card company and disputed the charge. I should have a credit back tomorrow.

Good to hear! Most companies/businesses don't want to, nor want to put up the funds, give a credit card company trouble.

The lesson here, though: When you buy something online and pay for it in advance, take a printed out receipt and make sure the person you're dealing with understands that you already paid and will be P.O.'ed if they charge you again.
