Gulf members and moving an older cat

Do we have any members living in arab gulf countries (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain)? I thought we did, but I can't remember.

The husband and I are starting to plan our move there (probably Abu Dhabi) in the next few years, and of course, the Squeakster will be making the trip with us So I'm wondering about the cat culture over there. With all the expats, I figure there has to be some western pet culture. What kinds of food is available? Litter? What are the costs? Vets? Do apartments usually let you have pets?

Also, by the time we move, Squeaky will probably be 9 or 10. How well do older cats do when they travel overseas? She's been a minne-snow-da kitty all her life, so will the change of climate cause problems?

Just found this link of an ex-pat in AbuDhabi(sp) she owns a shelter there. Could be a good start for your research and networking for cat care.

Thanks! I had seen their Abu Dhabi page - http://www.felinefriendsuae.com -and see that they're all foster there now. Maybe if the husband gets a good enough paying job, I can be a stay at home kitty foster mom I'm guessing with a high turn over of expats, there are a lot of abandoned kitties who need love

Through there, I found several vets who also sell western pet foods
