False pregnancy

I am so disappointed. The x-ray showed no kittens. There doesn't seem to be any visible issues preventing pregnancy, or carrying kittens full term. My vet and I talked about all the options. I may possibly try a 14 day round of antibiotics prior to trying again, once she is through this false pregnancy and goes back into heat.

If she can't conceive, I will have to spay her and start over with a new Queen. I'll be getting my new smoke Mau around April, and I have Safiya (but my stud is her Dad so that doesn't help a whole lot).

Just sad.

The same thing just happened to my mentors cat.
She was so sad and had to have her altered on monday.
Then she bled all over.
She was due Jan 28th if she had been preg.
I hope your cat will get preg.

I'm so sorry about your girl. I do hope next time is the charm

What really makes this sadder is the fact that thousands of cats that shouldn't be bred or allowed (mixes) are having kittens left and right by irresponsible people!

So sorry, sending for next time.

Did she do all the usual things, pink up, get rounder etc??

Yep, but she seems to realize it's not real now. I brought her home from the vet and she's parading in front of Tsekani's enclosure with her tail in the air.

Talking to my mentors, and they have some advice I am going to talk over with my vet before I try again.

Happily, three of the people on my wait list said they are more than happy to wait.. I had even sent them alternative catteries to try out. It makes me feel better to have some people interested in the kittens I don't keep for my program, before I breed.

My mentors and the cat group I belong to are suggesting I talk to my vet about Strep g and recommending a protocol of Antirobe antibiotics. Waiting for a call back from my vet.

Mentors are wonderful Exactly why every breeder should have them.

Hope everything works out.

I waited until Sky was actively calling (as per directions for the antirobe protocol). Last night she started, so I dosed both her and Tsekani, and I tried it myself.. AEGH!! It makes Buckley's taste good. I wanted to see how bad it was since some sites said it was very bitter and may make your cat foam at the mouth. They don't like it of course, but did nothing more than drink a lot of water after the dose.

I'll be putting them together on Sunday, and for two days following that. Tsekani can't wait! Actually neither can she, she is quite the temptress when in heat.

Day three of mating today. Sky is definitely into it. Rolling around and yowling when I separate them for rest periods. Man I hope this one goes. I have a wait list of 14 people! None are interested in showing though, darnit - was hoping to get some Mau showing friends on this coast.

That sounds like quite a waiting list. Probably a good thing for me that you're so far away. I would love to get into showing (not breeding, at least not any time soon) some day; I already attend a lot of shows in my area, just for fun.

Good luck with Sky. I hope you'll also share photos when your smoke Mau comes. I saw several smokes at a show last year, and I really liked them. They looked like little ninja kitties to me!

Smokes look a lot better in person than in pictures. I have shown my family pics of my new girl, and they think she looks like an alien. I'll have to figure out how to present them well on my sale page so I don't end up owning 14 cats (=

So far, everyone wants a silver.

Day 7 after first mating, and she seems to be out of heat. Hoping hoping hoping.

hi,
I really hope everything worked out great for you.
you know, we also had some difficulties with our breeding.
people have no idea that serious breeding is really hard work, isn't it!?
it is not just, to let cat on top of cat and that's it! but some backyard breeders do excatly that
well we are now waiting to see if our princes zina (sacred birman) is pregnant

greetings from chile

Good luck

I'm sending Malika off for mating this week, she'll stay there for 3 weeks after mating to confirm pregnancy before sending her home. She goes back to her breeder in Victoria for a Summer romance with Coco Latino who I'm told is nice and gentle with his girlfriends

Hopefully soon we'll have several spotted babies with Oci and Mau kittens on this site.
