I bought a pot of pet grass from Petsmart. It's organic and made by Bell Rock Growers. I remember reading or being told somewhere that it would help with cat digestion. I figured maybe it would reduce the occassional vomit here and there from an upset stomach, and also be a way to get Ollie to stop trying to eat toilet paper. I have to hide the tp from him. I think he just is craving some type of roughage, so this would be a better way for him to get it.

Anyways, within a minute of me putting it down and watering it, Ally starting eating it and after Ollie watched her, he tried it too and seems to like it.

I'm mainly posting this to ask:

1. Is what I heard correct about pet grass helping with digestion?

and

2. Any risks I need to know about with letting them eat pet grass? It's just wheat grass if I'm not mistaken, but I want to double check.

Any other helpful info about pet grass would be appreciated.

I grow my own, and it really seems to help my oldest cat with his digestion and hairballs. I notice when I forget to start a new batch and they run out while the new stuff is sprouting.

I also noticed my cats seem to like the cat grass seed mix. I buy one that has barley, oat and wheat grass seeds in it (Cosmic Kitty Herbs). The cats seem to prefer it to when I have a package that is just 1 kind of grass seed.

I've gotten both the pots of live grass and then started growing my own (Petsmart here had organic seeds) and I got some organic potting soil.

Anyway, vet said that if kitties enjoy eating the grass and don't vomit too often (you may get the occasional spit-up of green, but it cleaned up easily with Nature's Miracle on my white carpet), you're good to go. This vet said that it can help with digestion and hairballs, but the experience may vary per cat.

My Dante loves the stuff, and Dharma learned to eat it from him. Hmm, funny, my Dante will eat tp in the guest bath - I have to hide it in a cabinet. And I've caught him eating kleenex too. Maybe it is a roughage issue.

I would probably have a major Kitty Revolt on my hands if I didn't have cat grass! Mine love it, especially after I water it (maybe brings the smell out more(?). I, too, use the "grow it yourself" kind from PetSmart.
