My cat of 7 years must have gotten in a cat fight. His eye was swollen and the inner lid was red and pussey. I have been using Neo Poly Bac for about 5 days and now that he can open his eye, the eye is cloudy. Will this clear up? Is there anything else I can do. Im not sure if he was in a fight, but could have been. He is a barn cat but since I have been doctoring with Neo Poly Bac he stays in during the day. I apply the ointment 3 times a day. So any advise. I can post a pic if you want. Thanks so much.

He needs to see the vet to rule out any permanent damage. The vet may also give you something else to treat with that will help with not only the scratch, but also the cloudiness.

Please please please, get kitty to the Vet for proper assessment and treatment ASAP. It is very painful for a cat to deal with an infected eye, or possible torn cornea (from scratch to the eye). Also one should not EVER be using anything other than proper eye ointment that's meant for the eye (ophthalmic), and one that's made for animals and prescribed by a Vet (human eye ointment/drops are not the correct/safe dosage for an animal, would be far too strong and could cause further damage).

Please, take this kitty into the Vet ASAP. Having had many cats over the years with eye issues (conjunctivitis, torn cornea, herpes), I can tell you ....it's VERY painful to a cat and cats are notorious for hiding their pain, poor dears.

Thanks for the replies. I was using the proper ointment from the Vet for what I thought was conjunctivtis. I did take my cat to the Vet today and it was far worse than I had thought. My cat is having to have his eye removed as it is damaged with no chance of getting better. Surgery is scheduled for tomorrow. I do not believe the eye could have been saved if I had went to the Vet earlier. But if something like this happens again, I will not wait.

oh shame man, sorry to hear that. we nearly had to have my Josies eye removed, she had an ulcer and it was bad bad bad. but luckily it has improved. Your kitty will probably be happier without the eye and without the pain.

So sorry to hear about your kitty having to have eye removed but no worries, kitty will learn to adjust to having only one eye. Even blind cats learn to adjust! I hope that if your kitty is an outside cat, that you will decide to keep kitty strictly indoors (to avoid another cat fight). Might be at a bit of a disadvantage in terms of protecting himself from other cats or dogs if outside. Plus you'll surely want to keep a close eye on him while he recovers.
Even outdoor cats can learn to adjust nicely to becoming indoor-only cats (some of my cats are living proof!)

Please let us know how things go.

Did the Vet think the eye had severe ulcers? What all did the Vet tell you exactly, that warranted removal of the eye, just curious.

Bless you for taking him to the Vet :0)

I picked up my cat this am and he is sleeping under my desk. The Vet said the eye was in real bad shape and a mess. I will be keeping the cat indoors until the stiches are removed. He's never used litter before, so I brought in some sand from the riverbank. I tried to teach my cats to do their business in one part of the field using the river bank soil, hoping to keep them out of my flower and garden beds. When he came home, he acted like he wanted to go out, so I took him to the place where I had the litter box with sand, and he knew exactly what to do. We have a farm and he must remain an outdoor cat to help with the mice and snakes. Thanks for your thoughts.
