I put out a letter for the mailperson to pick up, putting it above my mailbox slot as I always do, and as others here do as well. Some
tore it open! Looking for money I am guessing, there was none in there. This happened Saturday morning, yea, I am just getting around to venting about it now, lol.
Before you tell me to report it to the landlords, my neighbor beat me to it! I was walking back to my apt. pretty much spitting and cussing, mangled envelope in hand and her son (the derranged dude) saw me, I let loose a torrent of bad, bad words, many F bombs dropped, he told his Mom, who then immediatly called!
I know nothing can be done, federal offence that it is, who knows who did it? But I kind of felt better with her being so outraged she called before I even had a chance to take my shoes off!

It is not good to have people tampering with your mail. Hubby and I put all of our mail in one of those blue postal boxes or take it directly to the post office so that it is not a temptation for people to mess with.

Regardless that your landlord was notified, you still should call your local post office to report it. I drop what little outgoing mail I have at the post office on my way to work. I had a stalker that opened my phone bill after I changed my phone number, so he could find out what the new, unlisted number was. I was never able to prove it, but it was pretty obvious when he started calling me again.

I never leave mail by my mail box for pick up unless it's a "return to sender" from someone who used to live in my apartment. But over the years it's gotten less frequent. Any mail I need sent out I drop into the slot of a Canada Post mail box. This way it can't be tampered with...at least not very easily.

I always take my mail directly into the post office and put it in one of those slots. I don't even use the blue boxes outside the post office, I get out of the car and go in.

I'm sorry it happened, but in this day and age with ID theft so bad, you NEVER EVER put out mail in the open to be picked up by the mailperson. You take it directly to a mailbox and drop it in.

This is a good way for a thief to steal your identity quickly (and you may have had it done now depending on what was in there with your info on it). Go to this link to learn more http://www.stolenidentityreport.com

I didn't even know you could leave mail at your own mailbox to be picked up. Around here we have to put it in a mailbox or take it to the post office.

They could very well have stolen my identity, well good luck with that, I have horrible credit, no cards or a bank account, and no money, lol. (never thought I would laugh about that!)
Yes I have learned now, go to the mailbox or post office, I still think it was crack heads coming off a Friday night blast looking for more drug cash on a shakey crashing fast Saturday morning. Sadly, this is the area I live,
