What do you put your cats in when you show and are at a hotel

We are planning on going to a cat show next month but we will have to stay in a hotel.
What do you keep your cats in when you are in the hotel?

I went to New Orleans and took three of my six pets along. That included Gigi. She used a dog cage...30 x 20 with a mini litterbox and bed in it.

Where do you buy them at.
I will be taking my 2 sphynx and Coco if she I still around.
She is 17.10 years old and has CRF and other problems.

Nothing - I usually am only showing one or two and all of them are alters, so there isn't a problem - never has been.

I do know that some with studs either locks them in the bathroom or they set up one of the show cages (tents) for the boys. If they have mix of entires (males/females) the males are always caged!

I am just afraid they may claw something up.
I always leave the show shelter at the shows.
I am worried that a maid will come in and we will be at the show.
Coco would be staying in the hotel room.

I always cage my cats at motels now because we've had so many near misses and it stops them from running out when you enter/exit the motel. Just a standard dog pen that I keep my kittens in

If you are keeping a cat in the room when at the show you have to lock them up in a cage or the bathroom. I'd leave a note on the door about "do not open" on the bathroom door - or leave the "do not disturb" sign on the door and they won't come in.

I haven't gone to any cat shows where I had to stay at a hotel but if I did I would probably use a regular medium-sized dog crate. You can buy them at any pet supply chain store.

When I travel with my dogs I either use an exercise pen (obviously wouldn't work for cats as it has no top) or a soft-sided collapsible crate in the hotel room. I've used a large soft-sided dog crate for a cat before but it was a feral cat and he clawed a hole in the cage. The exercise pen is lighter weight and bigger than a crate but for cats you would need to buy a top and bottom for it as they are open otherwise, and at that point you might as well use a metal collapsing crate instead.

I have extra security cages for the hotel. Sturdi also has a tent that you can use. I don't let any of mine run free -- I've heard too many horror stories.

Thanks Everyone,
I have heard those stories also so I do not want my cats loose.
I also wonder how clean the rooms really are.
I was looking at the tents on the sturdi site.

I have stayed in a hotel w/my cats before. What we did was keep them in a large wire dog crate with litter pan, bed (Food if you free feed) and water bowl. Then we put the "Do Not Disturb" sign on our hotel door, that way the maid doesn't even come in.

I got my dog crate from Petsmart.

Yep, large cage, all kitty comforts inside, do not disturb sign on door when leaving kitty behind. Gigi slept in hers at night and once dogs were pottied in the morning and lights were on, she had run of the room. If we went somewhere where we could take her with, we would take her on leash; if we couldn't take her, she stayed in the cage; or one of us stayed behind so she could be loose. It worked out GREAT!! Also be sure even if you don't normally keep collars on your cats, this would be a time to put them on with your contact info. JUST in case. That was my biggest fear!

I've brought my cats to a few hotels and never had any issues. If necessary they could sit in their crates, but I usually let them run loose and exercise. I find that mine are more likely to use their litter when free than when enclosed. I haven't had any issues of them getting into any trouble, but I do a sweep of the room first to see if there are any holes or places they could get into trouble.

We always let them run free. It's bad enough being cooped up all day at the show, they need to get some exercise and feel normal.
If your cats behave at home and don't scratch things, then they won't in the hotel room either.
It's always a good idea to leave a tip for the maid daily or at least when you check out. Happy house cleaning staff won't complain to managment. They have to do a little extra to vacuum stray litter particles, etc.
We try to leave the room as clean as it was when we got there, so we are welcome again with our cats.

My cats know better then to claw things but Cleo will claw our livingroom chair sometimes.
The show is a 2 day TICA show in Monterey.
I also have been asked to go to the Arcadia TICA show in Feb.
Wrinkles breeder would meet me there and Cleos breeder is a judge there.
We are not sure if we will go or not yet.
W will make sure the room is clean when we leave.

I know that many hotels/motels require that any animals be crated and not left unattended and most appreciate it. We also brought a tarp and placed it underneath the crate to help keep litter from getting ingrained in the carpet. At the end I borrowed my MIL's vacuum to make sure I left the room as it was. I usually take a dust buster with me on dog show trips if I'm going to be there long enough for hair to make a difference. Fewer and fewer hotels allow pets anymore, so I do the best I can to keep it pet-friendly. I've been known to pick up OTHERS' dog poop Grrr. But I digress....

If the nails are clipped before the show (which they should be anyway), even if the cat uses the chair in the room, there is no damage done.

Also I have a small travel pan/brush that I use to clean up the floor of any litter. The pan is always put in the bathroom and that way NO litter is tracked into the carpet in the room.

When we leave - there is no evidence we ever had a cat in the room!

yeah, I thought of putting box in bathroom, but this bathroom was TINY!! Good idea though in most cases. Tarp and vacuuming worked out great for me.
Also, maybe a door-hanging sisal scratcher could be brought along and hung up somewhere! We brought one, but didn't wind up needing it. She is really good at home about not scratching and I never saw her really try in the room either. But might be a good idea for someone.

Try hanging the board on different door handles in the house and see if she usese it wherever you put it.

I know about "tiny" bathrooms where you barely have a place to turn around, but we have a smaller pan so it works out. One really really imporatant thing - NEVER put the litter pan in the bathtub or put litter in the tub.

I know of hotels where exhibitors have done this and because of this, the hotel bans cat show people! Most recent episode was in Florida a month or so ago (not sure which show or club, but it was passed on).

Last June there was a mess in Florida.
ACFA and TICA had used the hotel and both clubs blamed each other for thrashing the rooms.
I will not say who was blamed for the mess but it was proven they did not do it.
It was posted on the CFA and TICA lists.
Some people here know what happend.

All you have to do is look around at some of the exhibitors benching areas. If their area looks like a pig-sty, it's pretty much guaranteed that their hotel room will look even worse.
Some people are just slobs and ruin the cat club's reputation. I can think of a few southeast region exibitors that I wish would be banned from the shows.
Their benchiing area always stinks, they trash the hotel rooms and the interior of their cars could double as a trash dumpster.

We have a new southeast region director, so hopefully he will do something about this. Our last one did nothing.

We have people like that here.
At every show this persons cats get out.
They have been told to clean the litter pan by the show mgrs.
In fact they were mad at me one of the shows because I would not bench with them.
I do not want to be near pigs.
Thier cats even went to the bathroom on them.
Last time they came in the whole area stunk at first.
I dont even want to know what thier hotel room looks like.
They have hotel check at some of the TICA shows here.
The club checks the rooms before you leave.
Maybe more clubs should do the hotel checks.
Show Halls and Hotels have been lost because people are pigs.

I hope he will, too. I think if anyone can help, it'll be him.

Speaking of benching areas, while people were wrapping up, one lady emptied the contents of her shelter in what I thought was the trash can right next to me (I was benched on the end) until I noticed it was really the floor next to the trash can. I was thinking that maybe she'll come back with a broom - like I did when Mojito knocked over his entire cage at the beginning of the day (food, water, litter, himself, etc). But, no. Just left it like that. Since I was getting some stuff to clean up Mojito's cage before I packed it, I got extra to clean the floor. Apparently someone commented about it while I was cleaning up who noticed that the other person did it. I mentioned that I didn't want people to think it was me who left the mess behind since it was right next to my benching area.
