He's been moping around the house since last week when I had to have my beloved Maverick put to sleep. He & Maverick were best buddies: they grew up together.
The past few days he's been checking out all the "hiding" places that Maverick used to sleep in. He's no dummy: he knows just where to look. It's so darn sad.

Then to top it all off, he got sick Saturday night. I woke up to him wheezing & sneezing something horribly. Thankfully, I still had a leftover antibiotic shot that I didn't end up using for Maverick, and we gave him the shot to clear up the congestion. He's doing a lot better now (but he's still going to the vet for a check-up!), but he's still so bummed out.

Oh, it's awful when they grieve and look for their beloved companions. When Tolly lost his Bibbs (rb 3/05) he grieved for weeks. I finally took him to the vet, I was so worried, he wasn't eating. he was given a B-12 shot to help his appetite, and the trip out of the house seem to break the thrall of his grief.

However, even after he started coming out and being a part of things again he continued to look for her for months, it was truly devastating.

He did recover after about a year, but he lost a happy go lucky spark that never came back. He gets so worried when I leave with one of the other cats in the carrier, and is waiting by the door when I get home.

I worried myself sick over how he would cope with his loss of Ootay, if possible he was closer to her than to Bibbs. (they both raised him) but it was different.

He had time to say good bye. Ootay spent her last few months weaning herself from him by sleeping in her bathroom bed where he didn't join her. And on the day she was ready to go, I (and she, too) made sure Tolly knew she wasn't coming back.

Bibbs was so sudden, he never got the chance to do any of that.

Oh well, sorry this is about Gabriel, not Tolly.

Keep us posted on how he's doing. Some Rescue Remedy might help him cope.

He's not alone: there are 9 other babies in the house - but he doesn't like any of them (except for Winchester). Maverick was about the only kitty that Gabriel ever liked & got along with. They grew up together, and were always buddy-buddy.

He's eating (thankfully!) but so bummed out. I'm gonna have the vet give him a vitamin B-12 shot too, when I take him into the vet for a check-up.

In the meantime, I've been giving him some extra lovin', but I guess I'm no substitute for his precious Maverick.

I'm so sorry
This is one thing I haven't had to deal with.

It breaks my heart to imagine my ShadeyLadi searching out the house for a friend that had passed.
That would be hard on me. Shadey though, is an only kitty in our house.

I feel for you, and the poor sad baby.

Be safe
