As a side note catsknowme--the outside cat was probably eating a lot of mice, ground moles, and who knows what else, that is probably what kept that cat alive for those years, not the commercial diet--a natural diet does wonders.

If that was truly so one would guess feral s would live longer than domestic cats ... And cats would not have chosen to live with humans.. Just food for thought... I think a mixed diet does = out for most to be best

I believe this too. Feral cats are not healthy cats. The healthier colonies are the ones helped by humans. I know it's off topic, but wanted to say so.

I bet the pet food companies LOVE you!

That's ridiculous, feral cats aren't as "healthy" because they are more exposed to the elements and don't have as good of healthcare as cats with homes and owners who care about them. If all of our indoor cats were fed mice, voles, and birds instead of overly processed, species-inappropriate, omnivore diets, they would be unstoppably healthy.

Try doing some research on variable s and lifespan s of feline s in various countries

I have one cat on a corn based prescription food. The corn is used as a low ash source of protein that helps keep a cats urine properly acid. Her fur is thick and shiny, her eyes are bright, her energy level is the highest in the house, she's smart and imaginative in play, her stools are small and low odor which shows that her body is using much of the food, there is very little going to waste.

And her urine is crystal free with a pH of 6.4.

She has been tried on other, non prescription all canned diets, on expensive designer foods. The crystals always come back.

Sometimes the "lesser of two evils" is a choice that has to be made. I choose a diet with so perceived "lesser ingredients" so Mazy cat can enjoy excellent health and quality of life.

My other two cats are on a mostly grain free canned diet, with premium quality kibble for snacks. But because of Mazy's genetic make up, she requires a special diet.

All whiskas foods make my Billy sick, he has a really sensitive stomach, my vet said that whiskas foods are very rich as they contain alot of artificial things to lure cats into liking it but that it does not suit alot of cats, especially ones with allergies and sensitive stomachs. I have found it so hard to find a food that suits Billy. x

No, only in special circumstances. Mazy has a medical condition that requires her to be on a special prescription diet to control it. I have tried putting Mazy on a high quality meat based canned diet, but the experiment failed, her crystals came back.

I would love to be able to have her on a "better" food, but Mazy is one of those cases where it's the "lesser of two evils".

Mazy does very well on the Hills Prescription c/d multicare kibble, as I have already said.

But it is not a food for a regular healthy cat. In which case, I recommend high quality canned diet, with a premium kibble for snacks and treats. I hope that clears up your confusion over where I stand.

I've had a rough time with my Tolly too. Right now I am trying to convince him he's going to love living on an Innova diet. It's slow going. <sigh> It took time for me to get him from Fancy Feast to Wellness, and of the Wellness he would only eat two or three of the flavors, the pouches specifically, he doens't like pate, and even those inconsistently.

I like Wellness as a company less and less as time goes on, so hence the current switch.

Jennie is still on Wellness canned grain free chicken. this has solved her constipation problem. I thought to maybe move her to Innova with Tolly (Jennie is not finicky) but she is once again experiencing constipation problems since I've started messing with her diet, so I guess she will stay on Wellness grain free chicken canned, for now.

The only cat food that I have found that suits Billy and well all of them really is Kitecat wet food, they have changed some of their ingredients and labels and since they have changed it, it really suits billy, he hasn't been sick for a long time and its a great price. They also have dry food and the only one I have found that suits is Go Cat indoor-it has to be the indoor, even if its just a different Go cat food he is sick and I am fed up of asking for it in shops to be told by rude shop staff that they have the other Go cat dried food and its just the same, well this is no good, I am sure they think I do it just to be awkward when really it HAS to be that particular food, gosh I am just glad I have it sorted eventually and I am quite lucky as haven't had to resort to a vet diet or a really expensive food( not that I would mind as I love my kitties and if they have to have something I do not care how much it costs-but it helps being cheaper
) x

Look up the definition of a cat. They are obligate carnivores. They are made to eat raw meat, bones, and organs.

Just looking in the dictionary will tell you that

I choose to treat mine as they are made to be and feed them a raw diet. The next best is a grainless low carb wet food. I can't wait for dry food to be banned!!! Now that will be an amazing day
I think it will happen...sometime.

I LOVE the warriors books because of what they say about food.

Look up cat and carnivore in the dictionary - they are the same thing. They refer to each other in their definitons. That alone is a really good reason to feed only canned or go raw.
