...that my 14 lb cat can maintain her weight on 165 Calories a day?

That's one can of food daily. Her activity level is quite low. I always assumed she would need 250 or so Calories a day, but I guess different cats have different needs, especially one as inactive as she.

Some charts say inactive cats can use 15 calorie s per lb.. Is 14 lbs her ideal wt? If so 210 is the 14 *15 amount but every cat is different ... my 8.5-9lb cat ( just under ideal wt) eats more calories than my perfect wt 13.5lb kitty

My little girl eats 350 calories a day and my boy eats 320 a day on ave

Has she had a vet check lately ?

I'm sure she's overweight, although the vet didn't give me an exact "ideal weight". It's hard to tell with her...she has a lot of "extra skin" hanging around from when she was obese (18 lbs). I would guess her ideal weight is around 11...which means she is getting just the right calories.

I should have added that, up until recently, I allowed her to sneak some of the other kitties' kibbles. In five months, she gained a full pound! I try to supervise all her meals now and keep her out of the others' food.

Is there any way I can estimate a cat's ideal weight?

If a 150 lb human can live on 2000 calories per day, it's not surprising that an animal 1/10 that weight could live on 1/10 of those calories.

Especially an animal that sleeps 18 hours per day!
