Was it pink eye or something else?

Thursday night my eye started itching and some goop started forming, but I thought it was just a sty (happens to my often, I'm a contact lens wearer). Friday morning I woke up and my eye was gooped shut, and all day it was itchy, swollen, and the white of my eye was bright pink.

So I started making sure I didn't touch my eye at all, washed my hands frequently, put my face towel (by itself) in the laundry, etc. assuming it was pink eye.

Yesterday I woke up and most of the symptoms were gone: the swelling was down, the pink was gone, and there was less weeping. Today: perfectly normal. No issues at all.

So what in the world could it have been (I've never had pink eye before)? I'm ruling out a sty because those either just don't bother me or they hurt and irritate a lot, and this wasn't like that.

And no, I didn't go see a doctor, because the plows didn't get into our neighborhood until after 6 p.m. on Friday.

Pink eye is a virus, every time I've had it, it persisted for 5 or more days and always required medication.

Sounds as though you got some sort of irritant in your eye.

Sounds like Blepharitis. I have this and like you thought I had pink eye and went to the doctor.
