Well, I'm not sure if this is exactly the right place to put this, but I wanted more than just breeders to chime in...

So...in cats the color gene is sex-linked. So I see a cat with both red and black, and I assume it is a female. Are there any other animals that have sex-linked color? Just sort of something I've been wondering for a while...

The only thing that readily comes to mind is birds and fish - where patterns can be sex-linked, too. Insects, as well, but those aren't animals.

Birds definitely - in many birds you can tell males from females by the colour.
