I think it also depends on the frequency and other factors...to take an extreme example, and one that proves I've been watching too many cop dramas, if a police officer sees a little kid get shot, I don't think it's automatically evidence of a problem if he "has to" have a drink or even get totally trashed that night. Some days are just hell.

Wow, that's anywhere from 2.5 to 6 glasses of wine for each person - every night! I have no idea who is alcoholic or not but that has got to be wrecking their bodies.

Someone who drinks that amount every day will most likely have to go through detoxification to quit. Yikes, I hope they are taking B12 supplements.

yes, i agree with you that is a bit heavy for every night but thinking about it now, i actually think she said they sometimes "open a second" bottle, dont know if they finish it but i dont think that its a good thing every night at all because it must be doing some damage to the body!x

Ok... so I didn't read everything that everyone wrote, because that would take forever lol. But I can try to tell u my ideas on when you are an alcoholic I'm a a hardcore binge drinker, that I know. I never drank alone, and when I would drink it would be on a mission to get drunk. Unfortunately/fortunally an extremely bad thing happened and I realized that I had a serious binge drinking problem. I'm also a recovering narcotic addict as well (al before I'm 21). Now, since I've been in the headache hospital, every other night I've been going to AA meetings

When you are drinking large amounts a day, or trying to use alcohol as a mood stabilizer for stress, I would consider a person under those conditions as an alcoholic. Plus u know it is bad when it interferes with your job, relationship, family, etc.

Even if a day is hell, how would getting drunk make that better ? It doesn't.
If someone think it does, they might have a problem, IMO.

I agree- if you need to drink to relax you and make you feel more comfortable, then that's probably a person with some issues going on... That's what I would do- whenever there was something I didn't like I would hang out with friends and we'd just drink and do other stupid stuff. I always felt like I had to explain why I would be drinking tho- like maybe it was my dad and I arguing, or the other way around, or friends getting out of control, etc. I was a social drinker. And what I find fascinating is that if you look at the majority of my generation, we are all binge drinking alcoholics to a certain point.

Do people really drink alcohol for the taste? Unless they were given wine or beer as a children, most people don't automatically like the way it tastes.

I thought most everyone drinks to relax a little, at least I do. I like the bit of a buzz that a glass or two of wine gives me, too. I don't drink much, usually a couple of glasses one night every two months or so. Definitely it's to relax, though, usually after making all the food for a dinner party and the guests are starting to arrive!

I partly agree. Logically, it's true that getting drunk doesn't make anything better. But, still, I don't think that even intentionally getting drunk once in a while as a response to a severe event is automatically a sign of a problem. Sometimes, for some people, it can be a reasonable response to an unreasonable situation. Obviously, if this happens frequently, it could still lead to an addiction, but I don't think it's necessarily addictive behavior itself.

Automatically? Maybe not. But there are many foods like that, too. People's tastes develop as they get older. I thought beer was gross when I tasted my Dad's as a child. I also wasn't keen on olives. I really like both of them now. And beer I only ever drink one, with a meal, because it's the beverage I enjoy with that particular meal. I don't drink things I don't like the taste of.

I'm not saying I don't enjoy the buzz, or even that I don't ever have a drink to take the edge off a crummy day. But those are incidental to the fact that I appreciate the taste of a good scotch or a nice wine. Which scotch, which wine -- they matter. It's not primarily that the beverage is alcoholic. I guess this is a foreign concept to some people, but it's not to others.

Just to change the subject for the moment.

This is a video about African animals and how they get together and get drunk on the rotting marula fruit!!!!!!!

I don't think "fascinating" is quite the word I would use.
Sad would be a better word I think.

Especially, considering your "generation" will be running this country some day.

an awfull lot of people actually grow out of binge drinking believe it or not

i do not have to have a drink to relax anymore i choose when i would like to have one thats the difference between me and the women that gave birth to me after you hear "i hate you" and "i wish you were never born" or "i hope you choke and die" im the bigger person and over the last few weeks ive learnt that

i work in a bar im offerend drinks off the people that come in i dont take them though i will say no to them and i can leave the pub without touching a drop come home and go to bed again with out touching a drop

they will never bann alcohol again because they tax it to much same as smoking and petrol prices

Most alcholics don't think they are alcoholics. I think if a person drinks everyday they have a problem. I think if they drink everyday, say they don't have a problem and that they can quit anytime they they are probably alcoholics. Women should read the statistics on drinking alchol and the risk of breast cancer. That should cause women to drink something else besides alcohol
