Our Outdoor Cat Enclosure

These pictures were taken back in the summer when my hubby first built the enclosure and kitty house. Most of the kitties enjoy being outside, we take them out in the morning and bring them in in the evening. At this point, Sandy and Sui no longer have to be carried into the enclosure and back. They will walk down to the door and walk right on in...and when we bring them in, they will walk right to the back door of the house

My hubby ordered the fencing online, it is specially made to prevent kitty escapes. If anyone is interested, I can find out which website he ordered it from

Why do they have a cat house?

Well, it gets pretty hot here during the summer days so they can go cool off and nap in the cat house. It has high ceilings so it stays cool. We also have food, water, bedding, and litterboxes in the cat house for them. Plus, they can sit out on the little porch and still be cool while watching all the birds and squirrels

OMG, that is fantastic! Lucky kitties.
So what's the hose for then? Squirting them down on a hot day?

Wow, that is absolutely amazing, I just love it, well done, you have obviously put alot of effort into it and it has certainly paid off, I bet you have really happy kitties. x

What fencing did he use? Can you post a link?

I believe it is the "Purr-fect Fence." Here is a link.

If you don't like how much purr-fence cost you can make a DIY version yourself if you're handy. The netting used is called polypropylene netting - typically called deer netting. Home improvement stores usually don't have the 7' stuff so you have to order online - shipping & handling is high due to the length of the roll. We got our netting off of amazon.
We made our own gate since we needed one with a 6' x6' clearence. I think all total it cost a little over $200.

I'm sure the cats love it. How is the bottom blocked off? did you bury it to keep opossums and skunks out?
Since it's such an open area you might consider some bushes and other planting back there. Cats love to be able to hide and watch things.

Holy cow! That's incredible. Your hubby did a great job.

Wow, don't let my cats see it or they will want to start calling YOU mommy!

You haven't had any escapes?

That is beyond AWESOME!
Wow, I can't let Storm see that or else you'll have another mouth to feed.
Awesome job, hubby deserves a pat on the back for that one!

That's beautiful - I bet the kitties love it! How about some catnip plants strategically placed throughout it? They have the added advantage of attracting butterflies.

The bottom has an extra, thicker layer of fencing that is staked tightly into the ground and secured onto the main fencing. I don't see any way opossums or skunks could get in it, but just in case...we only leave them out in the enclosure during the day and only while we are home

No escapes so far...but then again, they don't really try to escape so I don't know how it would stand up against a real houdini kitty. the way the fencing is made and the poles hang over into the enclosure, I have a hard time seeing how a cat could get over the fencing from the inside.

I keep thinking about how awesome this is, lol!

Go hubby!
That's some seriously nice space! Your cats are gonna be so happy in that enclosure once the catnip plants are up and maybe some climbing structures? But not too close to the fence though, wouldn't want any escapees.

The fencing is actually called the "Kitty Corral". It's from www.deerbusters.com if anyone is interested
