Sonja and Walli

It's a snowy Friday and I'm procrastinating at work...so here is the low down (long and drawn out ) on our 2 new furry friends and how they came into our lives...

Our cat Korny (named for Pekornyia...the road she was found on) was 7 and passed away from heart issues in August. Being our first pet, my girlfriend and I took Korny's death very hard....but after 4 months decided it was way too lonely at home without a furry friend in our lives.

On December 10th we headed to a local shelter that my friend works at to meet 2 young kitties who were in need of homes. The 2 cats had never met or played together before, so it was a first for us and for them. Upon meeting the 2 cats we immediately melted, they were both so sweet and got along really well. Obviously, we knew we really couldn't judge how the 2 cats were going to interact based on one 5 minute visit, so we went back on 2 more occasions to play with the cats and let them get familiar with one another.

On December 28th Sonja and Walli came home with us for good. Walli was a real shy guy and very jumpy, but Sonja strolled right our her crate and got to exploring. Walli eventually eased up a bunch and made his way down to the living room with the rest of us.

It's been almost 2 weeks and everything is going well. We're so thrilled with our new furry friends...couldn't of asked for better kitties!

Is Walli neutered? If not, did you keep him separate from Sonja while she was in heat?

Good. Nothing like putting up with a little girl doing "the dirty kitty dance" for a week, is there?

Our vets will do a spay under those conditions, but they do charge extra and there is a chance of complications due to the increased blood supply.

Yeah, there is another vet in the area that a friend of ours uses that will do it as well...but warned of the exact same issue. I think we'll just deal with her in heat and wait the additional time. She's strictly an indoor cat and we're very attentive when entering/leaving the house t be sure she doesn't get out....though she really hasn't gone near the door too much.
