We adopted our female cat 9 years ago from the local shelter. When she was 6 months old (estimate) we introduced a Rat Terrier to the family as well. There was an adjustment period but they lived lovingly together for the next 7.5 years or so. We moved about a year and a half ago and about 6 months after decided to add two lab puppies. We have had the puppies 10 months now and the cat still has not adjusted to them. When they are together (she normally hides) she screams bloody murder! Recently now she has started peeing/pooping throughout the house (new house mind you) and the final straw was her peeing on our couch that until she pee'd on it still had a new couch smell. My wife is at wits end and wants to take her back to the humane society and give up. We have tried everything we could think of to acclimate her but honestly if she can't control herself I think finding her a new home might be best.
I am against the humane society though because she isn't the most social of cats to begin with and I think she probably won't get adopted and they'll put her down. I don't feel she deserves that.
Would anyone have any sort of tips on things we could try to get her comfortable with the dogs? The labs are here to stay so she has to come around. We tried introducing her to the puppies slowly seperating them on either side of the door and they would sniff but obviously that didn't work. We also encouraged her to go by their crates when they were sleeping to further smell but that wasn't successful either. When shes under the bed hiding and screaming/growling at the dogs the dogs don't even pay any attention to her. If they were all over her I could somewhat understand her fear but they could care less about the old 6lb cat.
Thanks in advance for any help.
