Noticed it yesterday morning.... not his chirpy self. Food not disappearing at its normal rate. Last night- kind of listless and wouldn't eat.... well... got about an ounce or two of wet into him... not very playful.. sitting with a look on his face like ... Momma, I don't feel good.

This morning... I came in... food untouched.... wet AND dry... and whatever he had eaten the night before was on the carpet!

He was laying on his bed.... uninterested in greeting me or even getting up. He felt a little warm, too. There was some poo and pee in the litter box.

Sooooo..... I checked to see if he was dehydrated. He was fine.

I called the vet who said bring him in... Physical exam and labwork -- temp was 102.5 - high normal... Vet said he has a bad tooth, while that may be bothering him, that wouldn't make him vomit. Everything else checked out ok.

(BTW - he peed in the carrier.. phew!!)

She gave him a shot of Reglan (metoclopramide) to help with nausea... and gave me pill form to put in his food as needed.

Got him home and put out a little food for him... and a few of his favorite treats.

Ran errands - when I got back - the treats were gone, but not the food. So I opened a can of FF pate and warmed up about 1/2 to 1 oz with hot water... and finger fed it to him....

I left a little bit more for him when I departed...

But I am a nervous wreck about this b/c it is snowing like the dickens. I don't live under the same roof as the puddies. So I had to leave him there and hope that he will be ok until tomorrow. We are expecting 6 inches of snow and I need to be at Mom's to look after HER!

So I won't be going there tonight to check on them. The rest of the gang got a wet "snack"... and I put down extra dry and water....

Let's hope that Cas... and the other boys... will be fine until tomorrow morning. Mostly Cas, though.

Checked in this morning after the roads had cleared a bit... he ate the little bit of wet food I left for him and about 1/3 of the dry. He seemed much more chipper this morning than yesterday, but still not 100 percent. So he got one dose of the anti nausea med with his morning wet food.

I am VERY relieved!!

How old is Casper and how long has it been since you've had bloodwork done on him? I'm glad he's doing better but I'm afraid there might be some other underlying issue that could really hit back hard if not treated soon.

Cas is three. His bloodwork came back "beautiful" -- to quote the vet. They ran the labs while I was there so I wouldn't have to come back. They weren't terribly busy. I don't think there is an underlying problem. I think he had some kind of tummy ache and he is doing really well now. Eating, drinking, using his litter pan, playing with his favorite toy, greeting me loudly and with tail up... etc.

Oh that's good! We just had about 3 older cats come into the clinic with similar symptoms this week and they were all in liver failure so I was scared

I'm glad Casper is feeling better, hopefully it was just a tummy ache!

Hello,

So if the Vet determined that kitty has a bad tooth, why didn't he start kitty on antibiotics? A badly infected tooth/dental abscess *can* cause vomiting, just like in humans.

Are there any plans for something to be done with this bad tooth (following a course of antibiotics, usually, in a case like this - most Vets prefer not to do the dental if there's an active infection going on so will put the cat on Clindamycin (Antirobe) for a week prior to the dental/extraction)?

Poor kitty

Did you see her last post? He is back to normal, and his bloodwork is fine - vet think this was just a tommy ache...

Well unless there was another post of hers that I missed, the last one I read was this:

....indicated he'd eaten some.

Doesn't change the fact that he's apparently got a bad tooth that can't just be overlooked. The Vet is only 'assuming' it was "just a tummy ache." Cats usually don't have an increased temp, vomiting and poor appetite for no reason.

Don't worry ladies. I am keeping an eye on his tooth. There was no sign of infection. His lab work was perfectly normal, including the white cell count. Another one of my boys - Archie - has periodontal disease -- so I have a couple of dentals in my and their - future. $$$$ is an issue.

Casper is back to normal- eating, drinking, playing, using the litter box just fine. And hiding from the other cats! LOL!!
