Cattery

I've read the CFA standards for a cattery which have sample floor plans among other things... but I've never actually seen a picture of the rooms breeders use to house studs. I'm sure most of you breeders probably let the queens walk around most of the time, but if anyone has a few minutes and is willing to take a few pictures, could you? I'm curious to see the accommodations that most breeder cats are used to!

Of course, I understand most of you are probably busy enough as it is, so if you can't... that's fine too!

Thanks,

Aaron

My girls are with the family, here boys are usually housed outside in aviary type enclosures or purpose built houses. I'm holding out on having a boy until I really have to.

This is a friend of a friends cattery http://www.mangalakatzs.com.au/about_us.htm

Some US catteries here http://www.showcatsonline.com/gen/su...attery%20tours

What breed are you breeding?

I'm not breeding any cats, at least for now. It's more of a curiosity than anything! Thank you for the great links.

I don't have pictures, but the breeders of my Ocicat that recently passed away had a complete separate house built and furnished next to their house (which was an old farmhouse). The "cat house" literally was furnished like it was a house with furniture, etc. and each of her studs has a bedroom for their home.

The boys, of course, have vinyl floors for cleaning, but the room is furnished with treehouses for each one and a washable couch. The breeder spends 1/2 her day at the cattery playing with kittens, giving each one attention (adults). She conditions them to normal household sounds like vacuums, etc.

Another breeder has her boys in full size walk-in cages with treehouses, etc. Most breeders let the females run a lot more around the house. And have a separate bedroom that is set up for queens & kittens.

I have a large room set up in my basement. In the room are my computer, so I can spend more time down there, and 2 large walk in dog kennels. I keep my boy in one and my current mature queen in the other. She was as bad at spraying as he was, and a number of times she peed on my bed when she was in heat.

I close the door down there and let one or the other out when I can supervise them, and I rotate my alter cat and immature female Mau in with my queen, to keep her company. They love it in there and pace in front of the door to be let in. They have shelves to jump on and a cat tree. I think they have a very good life down there, and my plan is to let them free to roam around the house once they are retired and altered.

My Queen has an entire bedroom as a nursery for when she births her newest litter. I keep them all in there until they are old enough for their first shots. Then they get to roam the house when I am around, and get acclimatized to house sounds and the dogs.

Thanks everyone! It sounds like all of you take very good care of your cats. I like the pictures. Hopefully one day in the distant future I'll be able to join your ranks
