Can anyone offer advice or help?

Hello. New member here-I've been reading this forum for a while and it seems that there are genuine cat lovers and perhaps someone can help me.

My Baby Boo is almost 5 months old. On Saturday we took him to the vet for his rabies shot, final 'kitten vaccine' and some pre anesthetic blood work prior to him being neutered.
He was fine when we got home, and for the rest of the day. Sunday morning he was ok, but by noon he was lethargic and wasn't eating or drinking. He developed a fever and was trembling.
First thing Monday morning we took him to the vet, where they promptly started pushing fluids. He had lost weight and his fever spiked at around 41 deg. Celsius. (Approx. 105 Farenheit).
Bloodwork was done to rule out leukemia and FIV (the tests were negative). The doctor kept Boo in overnight and started him on antibiotics and appetite stimulants.

Boo came home Tuesday night and was a little slow and tired, and we expected that.
He ate a bit and rested. Today (Wednesday) he was a little playful in the morning, being his curious self. But as the day progressed his lethargy came back. He now won't eat, drink or go to the washroom.
He sleeps almost all the time. We force fed an appetite stimulant, but so far it doesn't seem to have kicked in.

I sit here typing this, scared, crying and not sure what to do next. Money is an issue as the vet bill for just under 36 hours was over $800 and I don't know what to do.

I know he is still ill and I didn't expect that when he came homehe would be his usual chipper self, but aside fromthe fever not returning, nothing has changed. The vet said he has a virus...but that was all I could get from her.

Has anyone here ever had their little fur baby go through this? Any advice?

I'm terrified to lose this precious bundle of joy.

The shots could have made him sick.
I once had a cat get a 105 fever after a shot and she wasvery sick.
Did he just get a Rabies shot or other shots also?
I only let my cats get 1 shot at a time.
I hope he feels better.

My immediate thought was a vaccine reaction as well. Has he had a FVRCP vaccination before?

Going to the vet can also be a very stressful experience and the combination of the shots and the trip itself could've triggered an illness. Just like in humans, stress can contribute to or aggravate lots of things in kitties.

How's he doing today? Whether it's a virus or a reaction to the shot, you need to make sure he eats and drinks something today, or get back in touch with the vet.

Does he have a warm, snug place to sleep? Cats who are ill often seek warmth and privacy. A box on its side with blankets or towels, near a heat source, might make him more comfortable.

Try offering small amounts of smelly, canned foods to tempt his appetite. Warming foods makes them stronger-smelling but always test with your finger to be sure it's merely warm, not hot. Try putting food on your finger and see if he'll lick that off.

If your vet isn't giving you better information about his condition or practical advice on caring for him, it sounds like you need another vet. If you go elsewhere, get a copy of his records faxed over, to save you from the expense of repeating tests.

Good luck, keep us posted, and many vibes for Boo:

There's nothing sadder than a sick pussycat, especially a baby.

I am assuming your vet says he is okay as far as the neutering process.
My best guess would be he had a reaction to the rabies shot. Is that the only shot he had at the time. The vet used to give my cat Muffin all his shots at once. The last time he did that, Muffin had an extreme reaction to the vaccines. In a couple of days he got better. When it it time for vaccines now, he only gets one at the time. I would ask the vet what kind of rabies shot he was given and try to do the research from there.
